Time seems to crawl

For the whole dependent

Mind’s grasping stretch

First adopter. Adventurer. Fool. Survivor.

You scream. They scream. We all screen for bugged dreams.

Onward, the only way out – the wolves at the floor.

A toe hold. For today, anyway

A small step away from the screens

To get things done.

Meanwhile have fun

Phil, the Philosopher Mouse of the Hedge.

Got a little time?

Love dinosaurs, human species’ anthropocentrism, climate change?

And now back to our regularly scheduled Ice Age…

Peter Brannen’s article from The Atlantic: “The Anthropocene is a Joke”

  • “… If 100 million years can easily wear the Himalayas flat, what chance will San Francisco or New York have?…”
  • “…Unless we fast learn how to endure on this planet, and on a scale far beyond anything we’ve yet proved ourselves capable of, the detritus of civilization will be quickly devoured by the maw of deep time…”
  • …”If, in the final 7,000 years of their reign, dinosaurs became hyperintelligent, built a civilization, started asteroid mining, and did so for centuries before forgetting to carry the one on an orbital calculation, thereby sending that famous valedictory six-mile space rock hurtling senselessly towards the Earth themselves—it would be virtually impossible to tell. All we do know is that an asteroid did hit, and that the fossils in the millions of years afterward look very different than in the millions of years prior. So that’s what 180 million years of complete dominance buys you in the fossil record…” (Oh, that’s funny – you know it is. Light hearted perspective. Great article.)

I have a pretty green anole who shows up on my bedroom window screen every few days. Given that I’m three stories up, that’s either a really ambitious lizard, or one that’s found a high-rise apartment for himself. Now, thanks to your verse, of course I want ice cream. I’m staying away from the half-gallon I bought last night, though. That’s for the post-dental festivities! We’ll call that the Ice (Cream) Age.

He could be touring new digs…or participating in an extreme selfie challenge.
May the tooth fairy be quick and kind. No one wants to avoid ice cream for long in the summer.
Thanks for tossing in a high ground comment

As long as the odd toed one didn’t jump in after you two! They look like they would be tickle monsters.
We had a new species/variety show up a couple of years ago….probably heard about all the mosquito brunches – but they seem to be overtaking the locals.
Thanks for hanging a comment on this screen and scream

Evolution and all this is so fascinating. I could have been a brontosaurus or some such creature. Who knew? Wonder if they had wrinkle cream?

It’s gotta be the salt water? Much fewer wrinkles under the sea than on land. Maybe mud baths are some distant memory/insctinct from days of long ago? HaHa

Geological time is deep beyond all comprehension.

I agree. All those billion year gaps are too much for me to wrap my head around. Heck I can barely remember what I did last week, let alone what was going on way back when.

This is precisely what DID happen. I saw it on an episode of Star Trek Voyager where they encountered their descendants in the Delta Quadrant.

This looks like the kind of lizard I used to buy at the Okla. State Fair midway every year when I was a kid. Little red string “leash” with gold safety pin so I could wear it on my shoulder. Box of dried bugs to feed it.

I immediately though of my screen door in Africa. Lacking a TV or any other such form of entertainment, I would plop my chair down in front of the Big Screen screen and watch nature take place: frogs and praying mantis and bats picking off bugs attracted by our lights. Rarely have I seen such great action. –Curt
