If the only order is chaos, then marching orders have been correctly issued.
Soldiering on with a goal: keep a stiff upper lip, ignore the bugs, distract annoyed animals, and appear undisturbed by the ever-growing piles of refuse and rubble in the hallway.
It’s a seasonal thing. Workmen’s schedules are open once parents become preoccupied with school, so it’s a great time to hire help for those home projects no one wants to crawl around and do themselves.
It will be an event of great spectacle and pageantry.
The excitement, the noise, the mess, the animal logistics!
Of course it will rain. And when the sun is out, it will be scorching with record temperatures and high humidity.
Unfortunately HRH is expecting massive, yet elegant, improvements such as this. We don’t dare discourage this line of thought until the workmen leave….©
RC Cat is already complaining about boxes and furniture in the wrong places.
She has her standards. Promises mean nothing to her.
Especially annoyed that her annual Boxing of the Children Day Message will be delayed. We have tried to placate her by pointing out that schools often start after Labor Day, so it will still be timely.
But she raises The Paw and reiterates that “She, herself, has witnesses the giant yellow delivery transports practicing in the neighborhood in order to prevent accidentally leaving behind any kiddie litter on Day of the Boxing of the Children. Explanations and excuses for dictation non-completion? None.”
Mousies. Our only hope is Mousies.
Molly does not anticipate problems, except boredom, lounging territory being reduced, and never-ending bribes of treats.
Visitors coming? She not thrilled it’s people, but if they have a dog, it’ll be fine. If not a dog owner, she’ll mistrust them and stare intently with grrr ready.
Molly has things figured out.
Blog posting week may be a little erratic.
(Don’t leave. They’ll leave. Sob. Oh, sorry. You know that blogging anxiety yourself.)

So do you have any that go off to university Phil? I live in an area only 2 blocks from a large (42,000 F/T students) university. The loaded half tons and rented trailers are starting to show up as exuberance young ‘uns move in. They are so full of energy and excitement it is contagious. Ha!
So, you’re renovating eh? Well, may the force be with you. Some years ago my ex and I had our home renovated and we had a great contractor – our two cats fell in love with him. He let them in and out and fed them and made sure they stayed out of things that were bad – like glue and fresh pant and fresh plaster, etc. They missed him when the reno was done – suddenly they couldn’t get a snack at 2 pm and had to wait until 6 m for us to get home. 😀

If i won the lottery, I’d have a place in Boulder and enjoy dropping into classes at CU. Learning is a life long habit…and the scenery/fun there can’t be beat.
Just trying to get a bunch of little things all done at once. Rip out the remaining carpet (which doesn’t do well in this climate) Of course contractors don’t always want to bother with smaller jobs, so we’ll see if they all show up. Really prefer not to DIY as it always takes longer. (We’ve done big remodels on 3 houses mostly ourselves – long before the tv shows). We are hoping Molly will relax and snooze. Temps today are 100, so going outside isn’t an option. Any chance your guys has a brother that works down here? Oh, well. Can’t be blamed for trying.

I’m with RC (and no one gives me treats when these things go on). Right now my husband is repairing drywall tape in the closets. Yikes! Clothes everywhere. Can’t find anything. Oddly the cats love lounging on the drop cloths. Hope your project goes well and fast!

Oh, closets. That’s on the schedule: ripping out that gross carpet – it’s too humid here, and with 2 fluffy closet nappers, just yuck (especially if the food has carrots…). Cats do love drop cloths.Something odd there for sure. Thanks for nailing up a comment.

I would think RC Cat would be thrilled with the extra boxes lying around. Don’t cats and boxes go together like peanut butter and jelly? Then again, if these are outside boxes and she’s an indoor cat, that makes the two mutually exclusive…

RC in’t really a box sitter. She may put 2 paws in to have a close look, then wanders off. Maybe it’s because The German isn’t here. The German would not allow any box very far into the house without her systematically going over it (in a definite routine/pattern) before “clearing” it to be moved or handled. We gave up trying to convince her it wasn’t necessary. Apparently RC Cat trusts The German’s abilities more than Staff’s. Do you think they know something we don’t? Today she’ll thrilled at the furniture placement giving her an advantage of observation towers. But no workmen have showed up (could have predicted that). Eventually HRH will be thrilled as we plan to switch the office to a slightly bigger, more sunny spot – she likes to bake while dictating. Thanks for stacking in a comment

RC refuses to acknowledge imported workers. She’s ordering meals in and lounging in her closet loft. She’ll examine their progress once they leave…and be annoyed they will return. This is so much fun (We are practicing our sarcastic responses…)

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve contemplated carpet replacement, only to look around and think, “No, we can let this go for another year.” The thought of the disruption is just too much.
I’d completely forgotten about the boxing of the children until I suddenly found myself gazing at some pretty red and blue lights in my rear-view mirror. No, he didn’t want me. He wanted the car ahead of me, who’d buzzed through that 25 mph school zone at what might have been 45. What a sad start to the day that must have been. It takes a while for everyone to adjust.

We are ripping out the remaining carpet…or will when the guys bother to show up – putting down floor goes pretty fast one they start…it’s the getting them here.
THe bug transport boxes are out these mornings – I have to take treats to distract Molly on walk as she with wants to play (involving muddy paws and jumping) or wants to sit down and watch the kids and buses. Tends to slow walks down as much as examining every single blade of grass. We’ve been inside far toooo long. Nice surprise with a cool morning today. May be an early fall? Plants are perking up a lot in any case. People, too. Thanks for cha-cha-chaing over to leave a comment

Always love RC’s perspective … especially in light of Molly’s erratic, in-the-moment thoughts. Meanwhile, the start of the school year reminds of of the bells that change classes. If the bells are late, the natives are restless as they can’t wait for their next piece of cheese.

Has anyone done a study to see the long term effects of 12+ years of behavior modification with bells and back to school mania? It’s bound to leave an impression…that new construction paper smell in the hallways each fall…

What are you doing? I’ve got the tile and the vanity ordered for a halfway bath remodel. Given the cost, I shudder to think what it would be if we redid the whole thing!
It has cooled down here and is absolutely perfect weather. 70s in the day and high 50s at night. Putting in my order for a lifetime of these.

We’re ripping out every last shred of carpet (which does not do well in warm humid climates. A couple of rooms and closets), and some electrical for lighting changes. While the animals seem to enjoy the new playground equipment, this better get done on schedule – the German is arriving next week for a bit…and nothing is ever done on schedule. Hoping to swap one spare room with the serious office – eventually giving me a bit of a space of my own.
New tile sounds great….there’s the old kitchen backsplash that’s tired. But we need to decide just how long we plan to stay in this place before getting into too much.
We had a cool front! mid 80’s today and tomorrow. Won’t last, but how welcomed. Fall is the best season.

Well, the first day the electrician crew (WHom we are now not so fondly calling Daryl, Daryl, and Daryl) arrived at 3 instead of 9am. And we had to reschedule the wood floor guys…so it’s going about as usual. Sigh. Only thing that will make it better is days of endless rain and The German coming for a sleepover – fun fun! The dog pack will love the new mountain ranges of furniture to play around/over. But we have had cool enough mornings that Molly can happily run as fast as she can outside. Fall is sneaking in! (along with muddy dog paws, but life is messy.) Thanks for waltzing by to chat
