Box it up for Ned, or Will, or June.

No reason to stand in the back.

There is room right here up front.

Oh, you are the lucky ones.

Being so close to your RC Cat.

Don’t be shy – although We do understand how difficult it must be to be so close to perfection.

And don’t think We haven’t noticed those of you who perpetually hug the back wall inching closer to the door before being dismissed.

Cat seating with crossed paws

Yes, come closer. Time to discuss. No dunderhead! Dis is not a cussing out. No one has done anything wrong. Except maybe you for such rudeness. Quiet!

In this time of joy and Good Will,

Granny, did that background check come back on this Will person? Sometimes staff is so slack. Security requires evidence that this Will is good. One never knows these days.

Staff acts as if this Good Will is famous. Hunt him, please.

During this time of frivolity and appalling lack of attention by staff, it is important to remember those less fortunate.

As many as 66,000 people go to bed hungry each night in this area alone.

Over the weekend, generous residents brought enough food to the annual “Share Your Holidays” food drive to feed 80,000 families.

Houston Food Bank headquarters says their storehouse is stocked and they are able to provide food to the needy ones past the holidays.

This warms Our heart and We proudly purr thanks to those who shared.

Still, We are concerned about the Ned E. Wongs that were mentioned repeatedly.

They must be a large family.

Volunteers said these Wongs will be desperate for food and assistance once schools are out and summer arrives.

Apparently the little ones eat them out of house and home when schools are not in session doesn’t serve breakfasts and lunches.

Is this Ned? He certainly looks sad. (Ned Flanders. 1989 screenshot.RIch Moore/Matt Groeing/Fox/imbc.com)

Many look in amazement at Us, the RC cat, and often forget We know what it is like to be cold, hungry, and alone.

It has occurred to Us to issue a challenge:

Staff complains that a penny buys nothing now.

What can be you bought with a nickel or dime these days?

And so many coins weighs them down.

If each had a box or jar labeled: “For the Ned E. Wongs: Do not open until June”

If all that annoying change was dropped into that container each night…

By June there would be a tidy sum that could be donated to the Ned. E. Wongs and others.

Some may scoff, this is foolish.

Olde Tiger, the Wise RC of the past, guided the Realm with wisdom such as

“Small things add up. Great rivers are slowed by one determined beaver.”

This is simply a suggestion. Not a command.

As Olde Tiger said, “The measure of character is what one does when no one is looking.”

As for Our part, We are also looking about the adjacent realms for those who need assistance, but are too proud to ask.

There. See the poor little thing. Anyone could see he's out of place. And his cold must be sever for his nose to be that red. Do the others turn their heads? No. We must intercede.

There. See the poor little thing. Anyone could see he’s out of place. And his cold must be severe for his nose to be that red. Do the others turn their heads? No. We must intercede.

It has come to Our attention that very near is a small chihuahua in jeopardy.

In Our benevolence, We have instructed the Molly to quietly approach the poor creature and persuade it to come in from the cold.

Obviously, the ones he has chosen to stand with are ignoring his welfare.

He has a bad cold! Just look at that nose!

In Our graciousness, We shall also welcome this Good Will for the holidays

Perhaps he is all he represents himself to be.

Then it might be nice to have Good Will around all year long.

These two seem to be in need – of guidance at least. Staff says they appear to be shopping at the Good Will store. What? Good Will is a merchant? Why weren’t We informed? We’ve had people hunting for him. Idiots. We are surrounded by fools and idiots!

All may return to their happy diversions now.

Mousies and tributes may be left on the festive table there.

What? Donate the mousies?

Tut, tut. We have already inquired, but apparently mousies are an acquired taste.

We shall offer shelter to gallant mousies thoughtlessly turned away.

Yes, yes. We shall console them.

Comfort them, Make them feel worthy and wanted.

What? No, We are not drooling! Dunderhead.

The paw has waved.

Audience is finished.

You have Our permission to withdraw.

Staff, clear the room. We must rest after this ordeal…

We try so hard. Insolence is so discouraging.

Waving again!

Fini.

And don’t forget to leave the tribute of an open can of food in the doorway.

Adieu.

I am RC Cat and I approve this message.

Great as always. As a young couple attending grad school, and then later as young parents, my wife and I greatly appreciated Goodwill stores. We still enjoy visiting them for special things (like a new pet crate, we recently bought for someone who needed it)… and we never leave there without a few more books in hand.

Hope RC Cat enjoys the can of tofu I left as tribute!

Goodwill and Salvation Army stores furnished/dressed many of us. Both have great many finds…especially between Christmas and New Years when so many are cleaning out and getting tax papers together. (RC is poking at the tofu…she soon brag at all the exotic tidbits she’s discovered.) Thanks for checking out the available words

The upper elementary classes at my son’s school do a food drive every year. Over a few weeks time, families drop off their bags of groceries at the school, then at the kids’ holiday show, all the families pitch in, organize the food, and get it ready to load onto the trucks to take to a food bank. It’s really nice that they get everyone involved in the process.

Having everyone – including parents – involved is what makes an impact and will be remembered. Great activity! Thanks for stacking in a comment

RC Cat:(Now that staff is back off to their duties where they belong). We have mad note of their kind offer. It is the season for sharing, so perhaps a mousie or two will appear requesting shelter. Mousies do not do well in crowded situations. Humans have that issue, also, but nothing to be done about that. Quite lovely, your thoughts. A cheery holiday paw wave. See? We are holding jingle bells in your honor.”

RC Cat, I like your idea of saving the pennies but sadly I think less and less people undertstand what saving, anything, really involves. They do get spending. Perhaps if the stores sold charity… with apparently requisite trendy bling & advertising, a few credit cards might get waved in aid of it.
Once again this year as part of my corporate Christmas gift I received a chicken, and once again disappointingly it was donated without my say-so to Oxfam to Ned E. Wongs… I would have at least liked a pat and maybe an egg for my breakfast, first.
I hope staff have put some sparkly things on the Christmas tree for your entertainment 🙂

RC Cat: “We encourage Staff to save coins in jars to pay for their summer adventures. That way We do not have to worry there will be fewer cans of food and mousies in Our future.
It is also a bit amusing that there are websites now that “sell” the idea of giving to charity (and you can post it on Facebook and encourage your friends to give, too). Sigh. Giving is good, but do must they be given a gold star and pat on the head? It’s a start and maybe the givers will be enlightened to the desperate need.
But your chicken flew the coop so rudely! Probably ill-tempered. No doubt would have demanded to sit on top of your Christmas tree.
We have examined the realms decorations and are intrigued. Shortly We are planning a run to the top. A shining star is needed there, they said. We shall happy to see that done.
So appreciate your visits this rushed season. We shall send you on your way with a jingle: See we are waving a jingle bell. Merry. Merry!”

I had to look up Good Will of course, another americanism that I’d not heard of. Seems there is some controversy around their employment practices and payment rates too.

This is one of those double-edged stories. Good that the community rally round to provide food over the holidays – but there are 52 weeks in a year. Bad that 66,000 people in Houston, let alone the rest of the USA (or the world) are hungry. There is something wrong with our societies that are supposedly civilised that we have so many poor and hungry people struggling so much to pay bills and health care that they can’t afford food.

Easier to be a cat, or a pup of course. No tributes today, the fridge is bare, and I need to go to the shops. I hope that doesn’t earn me a banishment in this time of Good Will. The boys send paw waves all round though in an attempt to make up my deficiency.

RC Cat: “We are so annoyed at staff. Apparently they were referring to the movie “Good Will Hunting”. No one has yet to tell Us what the good Will was hunting or if he found it. Perhaps he was on a quest to locate the good will of the Christmas season? Staff is such slackers.
Still We are proud that this area does notice the Ned E Wongs and responds. There will also be food drives at Easter and other time if the central Houston food bank signals the need. But yes, something is very wrong when so many are hungry – especially children as this set up a vicious cycle of poverty and dependence. There is plenty that needs doing. Maybe feed the kids and offer able bodied adults food/meals for work in the community….even the national parks need help. Public works programs worked before…if Congress/federal gov stopped taking trips and spending money on painting of themselves and sculptures, that money could be redirected…and of course there’s money going over seas to help poor hungry people. Ironic.
We shall over look the lack of tribute this time as your realm has recently rescued a poor creature. We consider that act very special. A cheery paw wave of friendship and good will to Snowy, Sir Pippa, and to your realm!”

Thank you for your gracious response RC. We are aware of the film. In fact we were offered some tickets for a premiere in our local city (my university friend works in film PR) but sadly it was short notice, however we did finally get it on video. I seem to remember it was quite good. Not brilliant but good. Not good enough that I remember what he was hunting though.

Maybe offer able bodied adults (and disabled ones too) some real jobs? No, pie in the sky that one.

Trips are important. They must be or why would our betters who are in power take them otherwise? No doubt it broadens their minds (they say travel does that) and they come back renewed, refreshed, ready to share the benefits of their experiences with their people.

Thank you for the paw on the head for the rescue of little Snowy. Although being able to help a homeless urchin is sufficient reward, it is always nice to receive your regal approval. We appreciate the good wishes to our realm from yours and consider that our realms are a fine example of how to conduct foreign affairs. No expensive visits and courteous behaviour even in spite of the lack of tribute. With which the boys will have yet another nap.

Yes, people are hungry not just during the holidays, but throughout the year. I sure hope that whomever wins the 600 million dollar mega millions shares it with people less fortunate or is one of the less fortunate. Thank you for this reminder, philosopher.

Giving is something we prefer to do quietly, without fanfare. Being recognized cheapens it (in my opinion.) I like the idea of saving change…it’s amazing how fast it adds up!

It depresses me when I hear children and adults complaining about not having the latest new gadgets and “must have” material things. I doubt their thoughts ever turn to those who have little or nothing. But it sickens me when people of great means say that those less fortunate have no one to blame but themselves. I can only hope there is a growing quiet crowd who believes in doing the right thing.

This is tradition and has never been more important. One can only do and hope the young ones observe and follow in future years. Bit by bit. Little actions make the world better. We are waving Our paw in hope. We would jingle a cheery greeting, but the jingle bell seems to have rolled under the dresser…and staff is so inattentive.
