Foggy Misty Stormy
Either the name of a stripper or a weather forecaster. Old joke.
Not a good variable, brain wise. Lack of sun, grim grey weather causes depression and worse: “Can depression affect the structure of the brain”.
Uh, appears so. Long term, damaging changes.
So the question is: “Should health care plans / insurance pay for fun in the sun vacays active immediately?”
Think of the children! A preemptive way to prevent cranky-driven violent actions and shootings.
It does too make sense.
“Sugar, call the travel agent or jump on line with Expedia or Trip Advisor! I’ll call the doc for prescriptions.”
Ah, if wishes were travel vouchers

My stepkids live in Denver. They are too happy and bouncy. Not enough fog/dreary induced crankiness there.

Far too happy and bouncy out there.
Here, you can just tell yourself that moist air is good for the skin and slows aging effects just so long! Even the ducks are ducking outta here. (and darn weeds are growing like crazy in the yard). Thanks for stopping by to add a sunny comment

Sunny day – and a side request of catnip mousie for immediate cheer-up response.
Each day Molly waits expectantly for the door to one for her morning walk, only to droop at the drip. We have palm tree – it’s supposed to be tropical HAHA. Paw waves and thanks for the purrfect comment

Even staycations could help with mental health. Or go back a little further… pay that keeps up with inflation, and being able to survive financially while working full time. Those would be nice. 🙂 And they just might lead to a vacation in the sun. 🙂 🙂

No wonder college kids are so cheery – so many are able/ and do to use their student loan money to pay for Spring Break vacations. That should be enough evidence: time to get away and someone else pays!
People do need time to do nothing. Staycations may help, but to really refresh the brain, attitude, and energy level people need a change of scenery. Sadly most can’t afford to do that – either costs or demanding bosses/jobs. If you own your own business with the 24/7 demands, leaving isn’t an option. Staycations don’t really work if you work at home/telecommute as the work is always there in sight and mind. That’s as depressing as the rain and fog.
Yep, gotta leave the building. Concerning is this research that shows actual brain structure change and body chemical altering permanently due to depression. Results are negative on society…this cause for potential for violence better be recognized – especially in children. Sun and fun apparently can’t be put off and are essential.
So, when are the docs going to prescribe vacations for health reasons? I’m ready! HAHA Thanks for the sunny remark!

I totally get that a change of scenery makes a huge difference. We do lots of staycations (no $$. I’m a writer after all). We really have to force ourselves out of our routines, otherwise it’s just another “weekend” of chores around the house.

Rediscovering areas close by is always a good, reasonable, choice – and there’s always something “new” if you look around. I get really irritated when local news runs stories about “How to do a Staycation” and they talk about checking into an expensive hotel (getting a babysitter and leave kids at home), get spa treatments at the hotel spa, go to expensive restaurants and shows….guess they forgot the reason the people are staying in town is that there isn’t any spare money!
It is important to shift gears when you can – even if the trip is a walk in a park, beach or lakefront, or college campus.Apparently not to do so is damaging in more way than anyone knew.
(gotta worry about how to revamp life for children to keep their still developing brains from getting damaged by depression…windowless rooms 8 hours a day and not getting sun/fresh air during the school day – being totally disconnected to the natural world the majority of their lives – thinking online postings reflect real lives – all a real concern. They are not widgets. Animals need to be free range and be allowed to have the luxury of dreaming without direction and rankings/scoring sometimes. Often feels like the species is determined to sabotage itself?)

Ah, the mists rolls in here and kisses the forests, Phil. Nothing depressing about that. But down in the valley it rolls in and hangs around, making things cold an clammy. We look down on it and feel superior. Right motivation; wrong attitude. Still, glad to be looking down. –Curt

Into every life a little fog must seep in…(but gosh darn we had 3 sunny days in Jan – and about that many in Oct, Nov, Dec ) Isn’t the phrase “right motivation, wrong altitude”? HAHA.
Always believed that sun shine and physical environment(indoors and out) has a big effect on people, the evidence now that depression actually changes brain structure (which affects behavior) is a serious concern – especially for children. We are damaging/ changing brains already with technology and screen time (eye development, attention span, thought process as well as social behavior). Society better find a balance or the species may be in for trouble/ more violence with these physical changes?
Head for the hills…everyone…doctors’ orders. HAHA
Thanks for keeping an eye on the “whether” and tossing in a comment

Moderation is always a good word, Phil, even when it comes to weather. As for screen time, a bit scary. There may come a day when people simply disappear into a world of virtual reality, rarely to be seen again. But, remember when the hue and cry was people sitting in front of their TVs 4-12 hours a day! –Curt

HaHa So true. You’ve read the recent Brit. article about end of civilization and mankind. Rinse and repeat – so much deja vu, right? (including the “don’t have kids as the environment/world is so damaged and what will their future be like”) Geesch. Good idea to get the hiking shoes on! (Hope you’re out there and doing well – the usual minor crisis parade limiting blogging here)

Storm warnings are out today, Phil. I shall remain safely ensconced in our home. Front from north is coming in with snow. Front from south is coming in with rain. They are planning on meeting up at our place for a party. –Curt

Fog? What fog? I’ve not noticed any fog. I’m sure it’s around somewhere, but I can’t seem to find my way across the street to look for it. For that matter, I can’t find my car. Take your compass with you when you do your walkies — you might have to steer a reciprocal course to get back home!

Have you seen the Galvez webcam the past few days? Looks like a white shower curtain draped…which leads you to wonder just what Mother Nature’s hiding behind that curtain.
You know I’ve been waiting for a dry day to haul out the ladder and trim a few tall bushes and tree limbs since October! Geesh. If it ever gets sunny, the entire area will be doing a Spring Break dance with wild abandon. (It’s rodeo’s trail rides fault…has to be wretched until after those?) Thanks for slipping through the mist to chat

Today looks to be one of those days here, with grey skies and snow in the ugly stage, melting and dirty. Ahh, well, I’ll be working today, so I can just ignore it. 🙂

More sea fog here probably until noon and then just clouds/rain on the way. The dog has just about had enough. Maybe a new bright rain coat will perk her up? (next she’d insist on matching booties…already miffed the sled dogs have them and we haven’t provided any here…). Thanks for brightening uptake comment drift

I’d like to go on a relaxed pleasant mellow vacation. To steady my nerves, of course. Pity docs don’t have the power to force insurance companies to pony up and pay for such vacations. I’d stop thinking bad things about insurance companies if they did that…

Yes, vacations should be paid for…how about after 3 years insurance companies offer a paid vacation voucher as a reward for paying them all your money? They want their clients to all be healthy, right? HAHA. Thanks for the soothing thoughts

Well, Americans don’t take enough vacation AND aren’t given adequate vacation time either. (That’s one thing I miss about being an expatriate.) Time off is good for the mind & soul. Definitely something to consider. Too bad that everything is a racket…

Not feeling able to take a vacation (yet to read everyone else is according to FB) is as much reason to be depressed as constant fog and rain.(It looks like over 10 days before we’ll get any sun here UGH).
Did find it difficult to work with publishers who needed to fill book orders when everyone is out of town in August…and most of December. There’s bound to be a balance.
Winter: there’s SAD and now weather related depression causing physical damage to the brain and chemical changes – sounds like insurance should pay for vacay, right?
Racket, Yes, tennis racket, please? HAHA Thanks for piercing the fog with a bright comment

Taking a much-needed vacation in 4 weeks, not paid for by health insurance unfortunately. And too bad that racket isn’t a tennis racket; a tennis racket is much cheaper and healthier than the insurance rack… never mind…
I’ll keep you posted about the next vacation.

Hey – we should get a petition to add prescriptions for vacations for healthcare plans – it’s preventative!
Glad you’re managing to get away (envious) Will be looking forward to your travel journal.

Seriously! Gads. Sea fog again today – but we did have a few hours of sun. I think there’s a weak El Nino weather pattern trying to form off in the Pacific. UGH. Although it would bring snow to the Rockies.
Front and rain due in tonight to shove the fog back out into the gulf and maybe a whole day of sun – Molly is looking forward to running wildly in the field with friends and maybe a little swimming in the pup party zone pool there. Oh, the joy of dogs in mild weather. Just makes you smile, right?
Thanks for slipping through the mists to say hello
