Once upon bark and leery

Like a watched pot never boils, the sun is being mud too coy.(©image)

Once upon a sit lightly weary, while water ponding bleak and dreary,

Over many a curb and up the drive.

Not even big brown truck bark excuse arrives.

Why the constant earth washing, she must wonder

Did the planet roll in something so smelly a quick shower bath isn’t cleaning enough?

Maybe the Earth is going to a special event and needs to get spiffy. (Meteors. End of Times headed this way.)

Could be like the kids’ chalk drawings on the sidewalk: time to clean up for the next new thing: maybe Fall.

A reminder to put up your toys and clean up when the games are done. People of all ages seem to forget.

A misunderstanding or copycat teardrops? Humans leak when stuff surrounding them is too heavy to manage.

While comprehension not complete, a dog knows to huddle close, soft with a paw, and a gentle capture of the drops on the face – to save those for later in order to return with great licks when there are smiles again.

Should all creatures run out with arms, mouths, and water bowls outstretched to catch and save this Sky Wash – to hold carefully until able to offer back to the sun when it warms and reappears?

Maybe the moon could offer some advice – if not also wrapped in drippy down pouts.

Or maybe the next door cat slipped and flipped open a faucet somewhere…a territorial dispute with RC Cat.

Keep watch at land and sea.

Phil, the Philosopher Mouse of the Hedge.

Bored? Wet behind the ears and everywhere else and want to see what has washed up? Don’t tread water – go ahead and read. It’ll be fun or furious? Only in Texas (hopefully)

  • “LA Joya ISD opens first school owned water park in Texas” (Valley Central/KGBT channel 4) Cost $20 million, but the diving coach said they didn’t have their own pool…just a golf course and, of course, tennis courts. The sprawling school district is near the border with 94% of the students considered disadvantaged.
  • “A Texas school district opened a water park – and you paid for it” (ABC13 Houston news.) See what your kids are missing! La Joya ISD is considered a “poor” school district, 75% of their school funding comes from the state (funded by property taxes that are paid statewide).  Review the formula created in the ’80’s by the state to try and equalize student funding across the state. (Please note that there’s more to the story including big city districts spending money on stupid stuff instead of on student academics. Also in the past some cities would intentionally keep local school taxes (in addition to property taxes homeowners/businesses pay) to keep their residents happy then demand make up the difference with state property taxes.) It’s a complicated system – perhaps too complicated so it’s easy to skirt intent and misuse? Sob story

Hope your week’s not a wash out. While only dealing with tropical waves/ tropical moisture here, some areas a bit south of us once again have 1-2 feet of water in homes being put back together after Hurricane Harvey last year. But the plants are really green and especially happy….dogs, however, feel otherwise…

“Molly, where’s the open faucet and I’ll go try to muscle it closed. I know I have a home, but it gets boring over there during the day. Any word if RC Cat is considering a visiter’s visa? Oh, thought she might be tired of batting raindrops on the windows all alone. We could have a America Cat Ninja contest? No? Oh.”(© image)

to RC and german, from jerusalem to heaven and back to earth again, if a cat ever felt at home taking out rasta knots at central station then he can dig this song, and can meow in key… godbless Phil, and twice on wednesdays; you’re blowing a tune that’ll be etched in the wind.

So much better when there’s someone who picks up on the small voice of the wild. Thanks for hearing the chimes (and the kind words)

Who is that last kitty? Does she have a real home? Is she a stray? Surely not — what a beauty.

Believe it or not, I ended up with a wekk’s worth of inside work, beginning Monday. I’m watching it pour down from the inside of an air conditioned boat. Am I blessed? Oh, yes: I am. With a fridge stocked with whatever I want to drink, and herons on the dock for amusement, it’s the best week of work I’ve had since the heat hit. Sometimes, things do work out.

It’s the next door kitty who has a name, but you know ho wit is: say their name and they may decide to move in. Her family is gone during the day and she gets bored with her pet (a lovely Australian Shepherd) so she figured out if she wanders over and stares in the front window – maybe meows loud enough, someone will come out and pet her before leading her back to her home with a small bowl of dry cat food in hand. So far RC hasn’t bothered to notice her.
As dad was apt to say, “Lord works in mysterious ways”. Your paradise island job explains why there’s not been a flurry of posts (or if there has been, WP isn’t passing along the notifications…a bit of a problem with that right now…probably Gutenberg dismantling things that worked)
Enjoy the rocking’ gig. Thanks for wringing out a comment to hang up here

I’ve seen enough water this summer for many years. Praying for the best for all living things.

Have your fish stuck out a fin and floated off yet? Going to leash them to something?
I know animal rescue groups started sending all they could to shelters out of the danger/path of the storm(s).
Looking at dry western states fighting fires, it’s hard to complain, but geesch. Even the mushrooms villages are waterlogged.
Paws crossed that all great and small find safe shelter and care.

We have had rain every day for over a week so the lawn loves it as Husband quit watering. I think we have been toasting Chac the Rain God a bit too much. Sorry to hear folks your way have been flooded again. The last kitty picture is adorable – used to have a stray that looked like her. Cheers!

It’s been really great this summer not to have to run the sprinkler for the grass – water is expensive and real rain seems to be the request of the lawns. We feel so badly for Dickinson and Texas City residents – need some time to dry out.
It is a cute cat…lives with large dog so has no fear of them…which explains why it is often pressed against the front window going “I’m lonely and bored. Can someone come out and play?” We like the new neighbors. We can’t steal their cat…besides Molly says RC has to clear any applicants for residency.

That water park is amazing. I guess if you can’t successfully educate the kids, at least you can entertain them. Seriously, that is unbelievable. They said it’s the only school-owned water park in Texas… but I sincerely hope it’s the only one in the country.

As for rain, our Washington State dry spell (summer’s here are extremely dry), we’ve had a few sprinkles. Still awaiting our first significant rainfall where I live.

Parents of school kids locally find it unbelievable, too, considering HISD is cutting teachers, increasing class sizes, and still looking for a way to pay teachers that tiny increase they get for sticking with the district another year.
Glad their kids all learn/know CPR, but it might be nice if more of them got the academics needed to pass the minimum (as in “low”) standards on the state tests. But hey, if people are going to hand them money, at least it’s going to something kids can use.
Hope the West Coastal rain forests are getting enough to sustain them. All I can think watching the rain is how much the water is really needed elsewhere. Maybe the fall will shift the weather pattern.

I’ve had to evacuate due to Florence, and our beloved Smokey passed away last week. It’s been tough, but this post brought me a much-needed chuckle. Thanks.

During evacuations when you are packing and moving your most valuable stuff, that’s when the fact that you are missing a family member hits hard. Glad you got a little grin. Peace and soft paw pat sent from the Realm.

We’ve had over 17 inches this month…and sun came out yesterday…along with the giant swarms of giant mosquitoes…if you can call them over, I’ll try to tie water bucket to them. Your spring is certainly a dry one this time. (No wonder people cluster around the coastal areas there.) Water management is going to eventually be a major concern world wide…(just ignore the storms in Japan, China, Mid-Atlantic U.S.) Keep watching the skies, maybe clouds will have pity!

I’m hoping for a little bit of that rain coming from the south moving this direction over the weekend. What a sweetie in that last photo. Unfortunately, we have a squirrel killing feral cat in the area that I chase off daily. Why can’t I get sweet cats to drop by? Or IS there such a thing? Ha ha!!

We’ve had 2 days of sun YEA. But the plague of mosquitoes- not healthy to even let the dog out. They are going to have to spray as West Nile victims already in one area…one disease in appearance, 3 others to go. 😦
Feed a cat enough, and they don’t bother to chase the squirrels…can’t get up the trees! Guess it’s a choice of which to sacrifice? HAHA
