Who knew Ring would be ghosting.

Ever hear, “Nothing good happens at 3 in the morning”?

3:30 am, this haunting hour: an unexpected knock at the door or doorbell chime. 

Multiple homeowners in one neighborhood checked their Ring.com videos and witnessed something disturbing

Quietly walking up to several porches was a mysterious woman dressed only in a t-shirt, no shoes, and what looks like broken restraints on her wrists. (That’s not, as they say, how you put a ring on it…)

She disappeared as silently as she had arrived.

Beginning of an urban myth destined for slumber parties and camp outs?

We don’t have basements here, but there are big attics, “bonus rooms” and sheds. Did she manage a desperate escape?

Did someone forget the “safe word” at an adult only party scene?

Was she part of a Damsel in Distress scam where an unsuspecting homeowner opens the door to help, only to have accomplices jump out from behind a bush then run inside to rob the place?

Maybe it’s the Halloween houses or a new spooky movie publicity stunt. Halloween’s lurking close.

Anyway, everyone’s spooked.

UPDATE: She’s safe with family in Dallas. This is a case of domestic abuse and violence. Her boyfriend has been found dead(suicide) in a home in the same neighborhood.  Aug. 29 afternoon News story here.

Also spooky is just how bad some people can be.

Vivian Sundermeyer, 87, just thought the couple were simply very friendly new neighbors. (News video here)

The first time, the woman, “Jessica” (about 5’6″, dark skin, maybe hispanic. Thin. Shoulder length brunette hair with blonde streaks.) stayed behind to chat while her “husband” said he had to go back home…only it was over the back fence and into Vivian’s home he went. Probably too the jewelry box then.

The second time, “Jessica” told Mrs Sundermeyer she was having car trouble and asked the elderly woman to sit inside her car and gun the gas while she looked under the hood. That’s probably when the “husband” went in the back and stole a small safe holding all her life’s savings.

Mrs Sundermeyer’s adult children are stunned – not only at the cruelty to their mom who had helped to many rescue animals, but also that their mom never told them she had that safe or the money in it. (Her children were already dealing with the nightmare of last year’s hurricane destruction.)

If curses, calling up the haunts, or Voodoo actually work, this couple might be a worthy recipient of such…

This area is always jittery and wary of September – for a couple of reasons.

Historically, the worst hurricanes show up during the first two weeks of September.

While you may not have hurricanes, volcanoes, tornadoes, mud slides, forest fires…or human predators, it’s a good idea to  once a year walk around every room, closet, cabinet, drawer in your house to make a video record or what is in there. Without receipts or pictorial records, you’ll have a ghost of a chance of getting the insurance company to pay what you should get if there’s a natural or unnatural disaster.
