Hauntings ring true
Who knew Ring would be ghosting.
Ever hear, “Nothing good happens at 3 in the morning”?
3:30 am, this haunting hour: an unexpected knock at the door or doorbell chime.
Multiple homeowners in one neighborhood checked their Ring.com videos and witnessed something disturbing
Quietly walking up to several porches was a mysterious woman dressed only in a t-shirt, no shoes, and what looks like broken restraints on her wrists. (That’s not, as they say, how you put a ring on it…)
She disappeared as silently as she had arrived.
You can listen to residents’ voice their worry on this video or this video.
Beginning of an urban myth destined for slumber parties and camp outs?
We don’t have basements here, but there are big attics, “bonus rooms” and sheds. Did she manage a desperate escape?
Did someone forget the “safe word” at an adult only party scene?
Was she part of a Damsel in Distress scam where an unsuspecting homeowner opens the door to help, only to have accomplices jump out from behind a bush then run inside to rob the place?
Maybe it’s the Halloween houses or a new spooky movie publicity stunt. Halloween’s lurking close.
Anyway, everyone’s spooked.
UPDATE: She’s safe with family in Dallas. This is a case of domestic abuse and violence. Her boyfriend has been found dead(suicide) in a home in the same neighborhood. Aug. 29 afternoon News story here.
Also spooky is just how bad some people can be.
Vivian Sundermeyer, 87, just thought the couple were simply very friendly new neighbors. (News video here)
The first time, the woman, “Jessica” (about 5’6″, dark skin, maybe hispanic. Thin. Shoulder length brunette hair with blonde streaks.) stayed behind to chat while her “husband” said he had to go back home…only it was over the back fence and into Vivian’s home he went. Probably too the jewelry box then.
The second time, “Jessica” told Mrs Sundermeyer she was having car trouble and asked the elderly woman to sit inside her car and gun the gas while she looked under the hood. That’s probably when the “husband” went in the back and stole a small safe holding all her life’s savings.
Mrs Sundermeyer’s adult children are stunned – not only at the cruelty to their mom who had helped to many rescue animals, but also that their mom never told them she had that safe or the money in it. (Her children were already dealing with the nightmare of last year’s hurricane destruction.)
If curses, calling up the haunts, or Voodoo actually work, this couple might be a worthy recipient of such…
This area is always jittery and wary of September – for a couple of reasons.
Historically, the worst hurricanes show up during the first two weeks of September.
While you may not have hurricanes, volcanoes, tornadoes, mud slides, forest fires…or human predators, it’s a good idea to once a year walk around every room, closet, cabinet, drawer in your house to make a video record or what is in there. Without receipts or pictorial records, you’ll have a ghost of a chance of getting the insurance company to pay what you should get if there’s a natural or unnatural disaster.
One final scare – and it doesn’t get any more terrifying than this – A cotton candy taco.
Yep, pardner. The Texas State Fair Food finalist are revealed here.
Better make sure the health insurance premiums are paid up for September, too.
May all the spirits that grab you be friendly ones

Oh, Lordy. And I just read on Space City Weather that yes, indeed — there may be something developing in the Gulf next week. It’s time to pay attention again. As for the spooky lady? I swear: when I went to the mailbox last night about 11, I didn’t keep going north, and I didn’t ring a single doorbell. But what a great start to a modernized “Bloody Mary” meme.

Certainly looks like an updated wandering lady story – like the Lady of the Lake around Austin.
tropical wave. First saw it late yesterday. Knew the clouds were too good to be true…undercover advanced guard…Where’s that darn saharan dust when you need it (apparently in Florida and around the Amazon)
Thanks for being brave enough to haunt this word doorway

When my mother was older (seriously just a few years older than me and it seems soooo much older) she was living alone. She was the friendly sort. One day I stopped by and a stranger was on her porch talking to her. She was interested in “buying the house” and wanted to see the inside. Talk about hairs on my neck sticking straight up. Mom got a talking to although I don’t think she would have actually allowed the woman in. I think she was playing with her. Still….

This is a big scary situation. The very old are from a whole different generation/world and are used to trusting people and wanting to help those in need – even some of those neighbors talking about the mysterious woman didn’t sound as cautious as they should be. Predators so heartless – even churches, bronze vases on graves, and old people aren’t safe. Must find a way to slam shut Pandora’s Box. Thanks for watching the dark.

That sad woman! Surely if she were trying a scam she would hang around till someone answered? Then again, if she wanted help – perhaps someone was after her? It sounds awfully like something bad has happened, or was happening. Does not look like a happy scenario whatever way you see it.
I haven’t been by in a while, for which my apologies. I was lured in today by the ghost as I’ve had cause to wonder about such things recently, staying on my own in a place where two people decided I needed disturbed nights and so told me ghost stories – about a group of ghosts if you wouldn’t mind – that worry the place I was staying, Sigh.
Hope the weather works it out of its system (selfishly she says) before the prof heads for Texas later in the month… Stay safe!

An unsettling event – so many explanations – many not so good. Usually the Damsel in Distress scammers are much more frantic, loud, and animated – and don’t leave right away. If she was escaping a captor, wouldn’t she huddle in some spot and hope someone is watching the Ring door video and will call police? There are lots of universities around the area…some frats and sororities are notorious for dropping off pledged scantily/bare at night and telling them that have until dawn to get back – but is it too early for Rush? (and so many are worried about being caught hazing and dismantled).
Police do want to know something. Urban myth dawning.
It’s been a busy summer for everyone. Haven’t been keeping up myself – but looks like the ghosts are going haunt us to fall back into lines. Thanks for drifting by with a comment. (Wooooo. We want to hear your scary tales!)

I’ve been “off” sugar for just a while and am so craving that chocolate and cotton candy taco. So wrong… But not as wrong as the woman in that song not stepping up so the man didn’t have to swing from a rope. That song really blew some rainy winds through my hair.

One of those treats that make you drool, but you know 10 min. after eating them, you’d feel sick…especially in the normal extreme heat of the State Fair…and the rides.
The most common version of that song is one by Johnny Cash – but few ever have heard the second one with the woman singing hers. Haunting indeed. Thanks for braving the spooky thoughts

Is it wrong that I perused the State Fair food list a few weeks ago, and already have my State Fair food bucket list ready for when we make the annual pilgrimage? Thankfully, my good friend and I split things, and then run off to find the world’s biggest salad as an apology to our bodies.
How very scary about the woman with the abusive boyfriend, and I’m so very glad she’s ok – or at least I hope she’s as ok as one can be in that horrible situation. And I’ll be wishing bad karma upon “Jessica” and her “husband” – and really all con artists that prey on people’s good nature.
My completely random thoughts on a Wednesday.

HAHA You sound like us at rodeo time – mapping out the food places. Maybe this year’s fair will have some tolerable if not cool weather. The State Fair trip was such a big event for us growing up. (brother ditched me and went with older cousins so I often got stuck with mom in the pie contest/4H tents)
They surrounded that neighborhood about 11:30 this morning not letting anyone in unless they could prove they lived there. Just like a scary movie. Whew.
Random thoughts always welcomed…usually more logical than much around here!

Cotton candy taco??? That’s scary to me!! Glad that woman is OK and a pox on that couple!! My husband always told our girls, “Nothing good happens after midnight.” Possibly more true than not.

How do they come up with these things? Some way to keep your hands from getting sticky while eating cotton candy? (Wonder what Shark Tank would have said)
Almost everyone had parents that said that line – probably a good thing.
Thanks for peeking into this spooky realm

We have game cameras just about everywhere here on the place. The city police department often confer with us if there’s been a theft in the area… and we have solved a few cases. Just a couple of months ago we put one up at our mailbox. We have a mailbox with drop-down cavity where mail cannot be reached but you can’t believe the number of people who open rural mail boxes just looking for something interesting.

Those mongrels that stole from Mrs Sundermeyer deserve whipping, I’m against capital punishment, but not corporal punishment, and for crimes of this nature a solid good whipping is called for; many of the old and elderly are too gullible and trusting, which probably stems from their upbringing, when respect for your elders, was the order of the day,
I recall, when growing up in England, often reading in the papers about the punishment of birching, being handed down in the courts on offenders, who’s transgressions were not nearly as disgusting as those inflicted on Mrs Sundermeyer.
