I’ve shaken it, but it won’t wake up – refusing to interact at all.
And I thought we were friends. Partners in an endeavor.
Carrying it like Miss Muffet on her tuffet to get a good talking to… We shall call it counseling…to avoid perceived slight by byte
Wonder if team building exercises will be required?

Ah, the joys of technology, but because of that I now have a new favorite phrase: “slight by byte” 🙂

(Mumbling..”you know how you’re always supposed to allow those updates to prevent something from happening to your computer…..mumbling…another example of how being wary of those isn’t always wrong….)
Happy face now (Although I think the only difference between what I attempted to what the “Genius Bar girl” did was hold her mouth crooked to the left instead of the right when doing the fix..)

I think you were sassed! Honestly, these tech kids and their fancy mouse holdings as if everyone should know left is the preferable way – the fix-it way… Techno shenanigans! 🙂

It was obvious that she was greatly relieved the fix was easy. She had a Doberman, so it was quite congenial after flashing a pix of Molly (Gads, we are those people….) Dog people run together!

Have you ever dealt with the crew at PC & Cable here in town? They built my pc, and are the go-to gurus for a lot of people. If you think there’s hope for resuscitating the thing, it might be worth talking with them.

It was fine until the ding said “Update for security” …It was the Big white Apple’s update software that did it, and by dog, the Big White Apple was gonna fix it…and they did…held down 4 buttons when I only held down 3 in my attempt. (Only took 2 trips, a few glares about waiting to wait, lines, appointments …another tale…)
Thanks for the reminder who you worked with – was going to call – have an ancient ancient computer we also took in to see if it could be resurrected – and it probably can (by us and a Phillips head screwdriver and a new battery…Senior Staff has some music/media project he wants to use it for…anything to keep it useful and out of the landfill is good.)

Mouth to keyboard resuscitation? Temper tantrum (tried that once and it didn’t work. Computer just got more stubborn.) Wait, I think I saw it in the Bahamas at the pool with an umbrella drink!

That would explain the pink flamingo pool float item UPS tried to deliver…
Apparently it didn’t want any additional security updates…it wanted a day off. Why didn’t it just say something? Anyway once managed to get in front of the Big White Computer store “genius”, it was (whew) fortunately an easy reset and software glitch fix….sad. The computer must have been hanging around here too long and now it is comfortable and not fond of changes either? HAHA
Thanks for toweling it off and nudging it out of the pool and back into this office

No idea why or how, but remove, then replace the battery & try it. Or if it has a battery as a backup, remove it, plug in using the AC cord & try it. End of my IT “skills”–

Those are all good starts. Turned out to be a software glitch from the “OH, you must hurry and update with this security patch” from the Big White Fruit company. They caused it, I was determined they were going to fix it – and voila, they did. Whew…the old old backup computer does need a new battery and talk about a grumpy machine…it keep moaning it “was retired ( and should have moved to Florida Keys…)”

It seems that most of the time we save by using technology is lost by the time we spend fixing the issues. Hope it sorts out for you soon.

All it took from being perfectly fine to no way is that screen going to wake up, was a security update. Gads. Once I waded through the summer computer campers at the Big White Fruit store, it didn’t take long – it took pushing 4 buttons together instead of the 3 I had attempted to override the software glitch – they were as relieved as me. But as you say, took a bunch of time and getting in the car in the heat.
Hope you are getting some mom time – they grow up fast, but sometimes in the summer you can catch them like fireflies for a few moments until you have to let them go again. Thanks for stopping in to chat

My former laptop–which wasn’t very old–died after a Windows update. Completely unfixable per the tech guys. I was not a happy camper.
College son is studying abroad this summer, so no time with him, but I’m enjoying the summer with my youngest, who’ll be off to college in the fall. Not sure how that’s possible!

What a great summer choice for oldest. You can’t be really educated if you haven’t traveled far away (and speak only one language – according to Grandmother). Computers make traveling kids easier to stay in touch with…impt for us if not them? Cheers for letting him go.
College already. Sigh. Hope he never leaves the magic behind – ok to let it sleep a bit, but never put aside – like in so many novels where they eventually return. Funny how life imitates written life?
Enjoy these lazy days (Although the stores are already filling up with dorm stuff…)

Yes, he’s going to be a film and TV production major, but he still enjoys his magic. He’s also an avid reader. He spends less time on his computer and more time with his nose in a book. I love it!

Welcome to my world. Accidentally left my MacBook on a plane May 2017. Haven’t had (been able to buy) one since. It’s horrible, living this way. Hopefully you’ll get your situation sorted much quicker than me.

Gads – what a loss! This one is older but babied as replacing it is simply too costly at this point (One good thing about working was the computers always being recent and paid for by the company…but not enough reason to resume that mania)
Life without screen is quite different – not like there’s not plenty to fill the time, but getting on line with a smaller device like phone or mini tablet is a pain and you just don’t feel like reading/commenting as much. (Although I was surprised to find that texting seems to have trained me to using smaller keys better and more accurately – who would have guess.)
It was a software glitch caused by an update, luckily. No costly damage or crash. I was on the right track trying to fix the situation, but was only pushing 3 keys instead of the needed 4 – geesch…picky picky

Yes, and it was a great trip… that I can’t even properly share because no computer. Same for other upcoming trips; got blog posts for days that I can’t even properly post. Let’s see what happens.

Speaking only for myself, it’s harder to keep up as we grow older. Progress is so insistent, and the currency and languages change in the world of computers. Every time I’ve changed computers I’ve discovered that certain gadgets don’t work anymore, and the relationship between man and computer has become more rigid. There are certain fears I dare not speak of… but a good laugh, or a period of quiet time… real quiet, where all I can hear is the chirp of birds and wind through the leaves… can be a great remedy.

Birds and wind – I’ve heard about those…mumble, mumble darn hot weather…Oct can’t get here fast enough…oh, my grandmother would say I’m wishing may life away – truth there!
Computer happy now. And I managed to learn a few skills previously not used on a tiny iPad which was only used for reading before crisis struck.

I started out with a Mac, in the early 90s… at the time people in my field were saying that Mac was the ONLY way to do graphics… But this had a disastrous consequence, because Mac had a different system for the coding of Hebrew. Once the internet opened up universal communications, the Hebrew looked like gibberish on a PC. I had to work months till I devised a program that could translate documents from Mac Hebrew to PC Hebrew, and after that I threw the Mac away and bought two PCs. Over the years, I found PC better… Not built as well, but open to more possibilities of personal taste. It’s an ongoing battle, to adapt the computer to my needs… and meanwhile my ability to write an article by hand evaporated. Without the copy and paste for editing, it’s just too much work. So now I have more computers than I ever would have wanted; table top, lap tops big and small, tablets with keyboards and without, and now the latest… a screen that attaches to a laptop so that I can write on the laptop and actually see what I’m writing while on my patio in the daytime. In short, the moment we start using crutches, we forget how to walk. But as a very old man, I have the confidence that I’ll be under the ground before they make they make these instruments so sophisticated that I won’t be able to use them. Still, as digital becomes more user friendly, I become more baffled…

How funny – we are parallel opposites (if that is possible) In most business, IBM/PC were the only way – Apples were for creative types and hobbyists. Microsoft was always throwing curves with their updates and “new”, but we struggled on through crashes and quirks. Real business and web people used PC was the thought. Some industries still that way. Eventually after a battle of will with work PC, I just wanted to come home and not have to think or outthink a computer..Apple is deliriously easy for what I do at home, but the serious office computers in the other room are still PC.
Even when I was building websites (loooong ago) it was PC. Fun, though. But once they realized I could write grammatically in complete sentences, I ended up with page design and writing content and fixing what clients wrote. Writing for websites is different than paper – some slow to catch that.
Your experience with the language battle on Apple must have been far too frustrating to tolerate for too long. Computers were supposed to make life easier, but somehow a whole new set of battles set up.
