Arming up for Floodageddon

Even storms are getting elevated to full of self-esteem winnership.

Although humans have always called storms names since forever…most not previously uttered in polite company.

What’s with the weird naming of every little hurricane, rain storm, flood, cold front, and dust storm?

 Natural stuff which probably already has a name, but like cats or non-English speaking arrivals, can’t or won’t blurt it out. (Do not underestimate the secret lives of nature.)

Seriously, these things don’t look insecure, powerless, or in need of positive reinforcements to form self-confident identities.

Human arrogance at its’ finest.

The 1900 Storm. Descriptive. Efficient. Future generations and media won’t have to waste time looking up when it happened.

Using the obvious is too simple.

91L: tropical moisture gathering off the Yucatan – a vague. undecided entity – maybe one without any strong intention of circulation, but it could be exploring directional options on Travelocity, Expedia, and Price Line. 

You know how it is…those from cold climates want to vacation in the warmth, opposite for those of hot tropical temps, those of the mountains want to visit the beaches, and, of course, those who yawn at seashells and surf, crave mountain tops.

(Fishing doesn’t seem to figure in those decisions. Humans seem good at finding that activity no matter the location.)

Looks like someone somewhere between the New Orleans area and Padre Island, TX will be getting rain from this tropical wave. Lots of rain. Probably on Father’s Day to Monday.

It’s the coastal plain. Flat is an understatement. If it rains long enough in one place …

Gators are grumbling as this is their nesting season and their little ones tend to want to play in the water even when told to stay safe at home.

There were multiple feathered moms in the back yard yesterday holding flight schools. Chirping like drill sergeants to their new winged pilots they’d better get up to speed quickly.

Maybe they know something.

Anyway, while keeping an eye on the radar, (Where is that annual darn Saharan dust cloud when you need it? Usually those fine particles deter tropical development which is super fine with me) I’m casually gathering and arranging.

Expecting a long period of rain. Hoping for no power loss. (Yesterday saw first 100F temps about an hour from here. AC is not a luxury this time of year.)

Supplies collected yesterday (Do you have any idea how much you crave chips and Oreo cookies during tropical storms….Oh, OK lots of seasonal fruit, too.) We normally keep 5-6 flats of water stacked during the summer so we don’t have to fight crowds during “The storm is coming” hysteria. Non perishable foods gradually accumulated for that reason, too.

RC Cat has been shooed away from surveying the pantry – counting cans ( “Only 30? how about a couple more? No, those do not count. We turned up Our nose at those expensive recommended cans once and We shall into perpetuity.. “)

Molly Malamute Is waiting for Chewy’s delivery. She is smug knowing there’s a new Huddlehound on the shelf waiting for just the perfect moment of boredom. (Hurricanes and Tropical Storms are like Christmas to dogs: their people stay home. It’s snuggle, play, toys, eat..oh, yeah that mysterious shove outside periodically – but lots of towels and drying afterwards…people have such odd amusements.)

Serious rain probably over the weekend, so scheduling laundry. Nothing worse than pile of dirty/wet clothes and towels with no power. Good to limit the pile preemptively.

So that’s the excuse de jour for a rushed, boring post.

It’s not a dream, It’s cool and for real and offers real solutions for victims of natural disaster, poverty (Nonprofit New Story sees hope), even for colonizing other planets. (NASA should know! They ain’t gonna be hauling bricks and lumber out there…) ICON may be machining the future.
