Brace for cat supporting action

Strike while the kitty litter is hot! Now is the time.

What? That should be “letter” not litter? Dunderhead. Tend to your own mess.

Knowing Us as you do, kind visitors, it is obvious We would never stir you in the wrong direction. Might cause nausea.

Staff, remove your hands from across Our mouth. Extreme fang warning! Better.

We don’t care if you have a family. Get back to that desk and complete the Twin Peaks scripts before May 1st! (USPD/Commons.wikimedia,org)

“A writer! A writer. My kingdom for a writer!” There. Problem easily solved. Surely there are some available.

A realm-worthy reward for words possibly on the horizon. Finally.

Frequent visitors know that We, as RC of the Realm, hold writers in high esteem.

On occasion We preside over salons of not only hair, but of wordy lines in books of crinkling pages or of discussions of last night’s offering from the Moving Window of Entertainment – also know by Staff as “The Tea of Bees” for some unknown and illogical reason. (Any dunderhead knows bees are far too industrious to sit around drinking – unlike some species We know...)

Nothing more delightful than a cat lecture lively discussion after watching The Moving Window episodes. Characters, humor, plot twists full of irony, foreshadowing, or satire – Paws down, nothing like a good story told well.

Yet, without a care for the distress it may cause, there are whispers that The End is Near.

Staff has tried to shield Us – hoping some miracle will occur.

But the reality is that unreality of The Moving Window is threatened.

We, as RC of the Realm, understand this is is a scary situation, but together We shall survive.©

Wow shall let you read for yourself. Yes, yes, there may be a quiz afterwards.

Long suffering writers who actually managed to secure a place at the script writing desks are struggling under old salary practices despite the changes in the industry and studio profits doubling over the past 10 years.

Different suits, same conflicts. Pre 1978. Dick Van Dyke Show episodes “It wouldn’t hurt them to give us a raise”, and summer reruns not fun for writers.(USPD/Commons.wikimedia.org)

We wish We could wave a paw and voila, a solution. Desperately wishing that. Enough to get hives from worry.

(Note to staff: commence stockpiling The Tea of Bees visual products)

The 2007 writer’s strike lasted 100 days. And what happened?

Reality shows. Multitudes of low-budget, idiotic reality shows.

Viewer supplied funny videos which rapidly became laughing at others getting hurt videos. (And humans wonder why their little one are becoming so mean to each other? Snort. A petite, elegant, polite snort.)

Shows’ seasons were permanently shortened after the strike, so blink and you missed the new episodes.

(What do you mean there is no room left to record? Dunderhead! How are We expected to survive? How many episodes of Beachfront Bargain Hunting can you watch? Cull. Ruthlessly cull.)

But The Horror didn’t end there.

Clever, witty, intelligent scripts with solid plots and well-developed characters seem to have left the buildings forever.

Replaced with potty humor, violence, over-the-top special effects, and a silliness that might entertain a third grader, but not the average Golden Retriever.

And, oddly, a bunch of stereotype characters who are super easy to create dialogue for and place in predictable plot situations.

Then there’s the trendy, pretty on the surface, but shallow dribble  shows. Nothing lasting to chew on there (Or to cough up later to examine at leisure until someone steps in it.)

Can it get any worse, you ask? Probably.

Woman and men talking in office. Mary Tyler Moore Show. Station's newsroom. CBS (USPD.Pub.date, no cr marks/Commons.wikimedia.org)

Crossing union strike picket lines? Mary Tyler Moore fretted over that in the newsroom. (Episode: “Thoroughly Unmilitant Mary“(CBS/USPD/Commons.wikimedia.org)

Such distressing news, but you must prepare yourselves.

By royal decree and expectation Out of gratitude you may leave a can of tuna or salmon by the door.

On your way out.

Take comfort in the fact that “Game of Thrones” episodes are done and ready to show.

We graciously acknowledge your tears of happiness.

You are thrilled. We can see that.

Now carry on.

Perhaps you can rediscover books.

Or face to face conversations.

Staff! Move them along. They seem to be in shock  raptured in hope.

Get those darn cans out of your pockets and exit immediately.

We may need supplies if there’s a strike. Starving writers may be more hungry than usual!

(One can for starving writers; one for moi)

The paw has waved!

Audience fini

Adieu!

I am RC Cat and I approve this message.

I don’t think I can watch TV through another round of mindless reality shows and drivel. You are right that the shows have gotten more potty-mouthed even at early time slots. Mom would have soaped their mouth for sure.

RC Cat, ” A short 3 year reprieve as an agreement has been reached between studios and writers. But even so with longer days of spring, We find staff is less likely to sit and watch mindless noise. This pleases Us at outdoor exercise means they are healthier which means they have no excuses not to be attentive to Our needs. An encouraging paw wave that creativity and wit shall return to Us.”

🙂 Jeopardy is in “jeopardy” as we don’t have a TV in the screened porch and that’s where dinner is from now until it’s too cold!

Most people don’t notice when writersgo on strike. Same happened in journalism. Fill the paper with tat, use a few freelance unqualified people, still churn out the newspaper.

Only the likes of RC are discerning. Pssst. Here is a tin …

RC Cat,”While it appears there’s a short 3 year reprieve for the strike, We cannot help but feel little changes. Purrhaps the current dribble is result of writers’ skill or lack of knowledge of wit, satire, and cleverness or purrhaps it reflects the sliding level of viewer’s abilities to appreciate. It does take effort to think.
We consider your Realm a hidden outpost. Unreachable by the armies of the dull minded.
We are honored to accept this lovely tin. A brave paw wave to one of The Resistance! (Don’t worry, We shall not tell.)”

Another writers strike, huh? And the possibility of more reality TV shows? I watch so little TV anymore that I might not even notice, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want the writers to be paid more money. The shows that I like are sharp because of the writers. I’ll watch them in reruns until the studios come to their senses. Honestly, this year… *sigh*

RC Cat, “Staff seems to find an hour at night for viewing – which is more than enough allotted time considering the offerings. The writers have managed a 3 yr agreement. We can only hope some creativity will appear. One need only to view some of the older series to realize just how sad the current plots, characterization, and dialogue have become.
Luckily it is daylight savings time and there’s more to do outdoors. We do so love to see Staff tired and happy..and sometimes We almost make it out the door…it is an annual spring weather contest.
A cheery paw wave for your courteous visit.”

Yes, I remember that strike. Didn’t know it was the cause of the shorter seasons, though I did know it caused the birth of the dirge of reality shows. I am grateful, as that is what made me quit TV cold turkey. Would you settle for some of that, RC Cat?

RC Cat. “Ah we are fond of turkey, but prefer it warmed…with a bit of gravy. We keep staff far too busy for them to watch the moving image box. Generally there’s only one viewing hours available before the lazy creatures say they need to sleep..forcing Us to amuse Ourselves all night. We have found it entertaining to slip up on the large sleeping plateau and extend The Paw down between the dog’s ears. The Molly grumbles thinking it is a bug or dream trying to crawl into her ear. Quite amusing…more so than many boxed images. A soft cheek pat for such a treat you shared.”

the peeps of europe mostly ignore such things… we get anyway just the antique episodes of all shows and there is nothing in our tv what’s really brandnew…. I think the writers should get more money… creativity has some needs… and empty wallets make empty brains… said the mama…

RC Cat : “It is rather feudal that the writers once they are signed with a show, they can’t take other work..even if the show is on hold and their pets are starving. Think of the little pets! Purrhaps some pets showed up and said biting remarks. An agreement was settled just before midnight, so for 3 years, they write on. A happy paw wave to cheer your day”
(Note from staff: “I get so excited when I see a new show…only to find out it was shown on BBC 5-8 years ago …still better than some local dribble….Staff also find it ironic RC talks of feudal working conditions…”)

If the TV writers go on strike, how many days can I last without original content before I have to go out and make friends? That journey might actually make a good TV show.

RC Cat: “We believe reality show personnel were headed to your door – until they got the news of a 3 yr agreement. Do not feel sad. This will give you time to choose what friends you wish to “meet” in that 4th year when discussions begin again…and practice being hysterical so you will look spontaneous and overly dramatic for the cameras! Just a short reprieve. But do not destroy furniture until the show contracts are signed. People will expect splinters flying off and such.
      An encouraging paw wave!”

I’m a big consumer of television and movies so a lengthy strike would be unfortunate. I will likely adapt nicely as I did when this last happened. Considering how split and segmented viewership is now with so many choices and devices a strike may not be in anyone’s best interest among all involved…although their issues are largely as a result of what I just wrote. The fluid dynamics of the entertainment industry dictate creative ways to continually compensate creative forces. One can forwarded now for RC…and one for those seeking relief…with the understanding more will be readily made available if supplies run low.

RC Cat:”Oh, Sorry for the delay. We were watching people videos – such charming creatures. One big issue is that writers become leashed to studios and forbidden to word for others even when projects are repeatedly shelved or delayed. Un reasonable. How shall they manage to buy provisions for the RCs of their realms? We feel it is a type of sneaky hate crime against cats and dogs. We have instructed staff to make inquiries. Meanwhile We are lucky to be able to entertain Ourselves. You can borrow one of Our corners for meditative staring. We shall do tutorials. Online. Yes, Yes. We shall offer Our techniques on YouTube. There. A soft paw pat as encouragement.”
