Hop-along past.

girl hugging bunny. Vintage Easter card ca. 1907. (Nat. lib. of Norway. USPD: pub.date, artist life/Commons.wikimedia.org)

“Watch it kid. I think they’ve spotted us. Not a peep about our little chat now, hear?” (Holiday card ca. 1907.Nat. lib.of Norway/USPD/Commons.wikimedia.org)

Hope some bunny finds you and brings a basket load of smiles.

Maybe even a grin to two.

A chuckle being too much to ask?

Girl popping out of Easter egg. VIntage holiday card - ca.1916. Nat. Lib.of Norway (USPD:pub.date, artist life/Commons.wikimedia.org)

You know that kid that always waits up for Santa Claus? Same thing. Wonder if she’s holding the preferred treat for the Easter Bunny or is she going to use the branches as a threat to make sure she gets her share. (Holiday card.ca.1916.Nat. Lib.of Norway/USPD/Commons.wikimedia.org)

Two small angelic girls at Easter service on vintage holiday card. ca.1930 Nat.Lib.of Norway (USPD: pub.date, artist life/Commons,.wikimedia.org)

Spring chicks. (and a couple of stuffed ones?) How long do you think these two sat for this? The one on the left looks a little glazed. Could be the inspiration for the current trend of elegant portraits of the very small. (Holiday card ca.1930 Nat.Lib.of Norway/USPD/Commons,.wikimedia.org)

Carded.

Happy Easter. May it be picture perfect.

See. Things not so different. Mom still in charge of the Easter eggs which must, of course, be more fabulous than anyone else’s on the block. Darn that Faberge! So much pressure. (Holiday card ca 1915.Nat.Lib.of Norway/USPD/ Commons.wikimedia.org)

It’s nice to turn away from all the strife and noise once in a while – to remember there is something else that could be chosen.

Noise. Yes, very much so. I’m not into psycho babble, but sometimes I do have to stop and do nothing for a little while. Like leaving a field fallow so it recovers. 🙂

Early morning is always soothing. Wouldn’t it be nice if once again everything stopped – all the stores closed and everyone got to stay home for one day? Quiet holidays served a purpose.
Hope your Easter rolled with the best!

Never did understand the relevance of rabbits. Or egg hunts. Tosca was on an apple hunt this morning though as I tried to eat breakfast in peace. Does that count?

Isn’t the bunny thing all part of pagans celebrating of Spring/fertility? Saxon goddess or something that was folded into Catholicism? I’ll have to look it up. I didn’t know that the German Lutherans told their kids that the Easter bunny was like Santa and only brought good children eggs and treats. Some Orthodox churches do not eat eggs during Lent, and to save them from spoiling, eggs were boiled for breaking fast (and for a fancy feast flowers dyed the eggs when boiling or did more elaborate decoration like the Russian Easter eggs?)
Interesting how traditions develop and morph over time. Souvenirs from humanity’s past.
Apples more fun to chase and chew.
An update: Sadly Lazy Peter once again showed no commonsense and was lounging on the ground a couple of days ago. Quickly noticed by Molly who gave chase and the squirrel instead of going for the fence or up the tree as before decided to dive in and out of bushes – with the dog and both of staff desperately trying to intervene – it was like the Chevy Chase Christmas show with the squirrel bouncing around the living room. At one point I though it was going to leap for my shoulders. Eventually Molly mouthed it up as the squirrel (apparently thought it was going to make a stand in the fence corner but on the ground) – but she immediately released it when we screamed “Drop it” Then she moved back 3 feet and happily sat down waiting for the squirrel to play again. We got Molly inside so the squirrel could recover. While there wasn’t a mark, blood, puncture wound or anything on the little guy, I watched as it just closed it’s eyes and stopped breathing. Died of fright I think. We did take it to the island and placed it in a sheltered spot of flowers – it wasn’t garbage and I just couldn’t put it in the trash. The palms still haven’t been trimmed. Peter’s busy sibling is still sleeping there although it’s the early bird and heads out each morning. So we’ll give it a bit more time – surely some mate will convince this one that the oaks are a much better place for a real home…no bachelor pad will do.
Paw waves and peaceful day to you and yours

So far a fantastic Easter morning here… Emma and Ronnie deer milling about (have seen them trotting by the computer room window several times) and wild turkeys having a nibble at the deer feed and corn down below. Lots of squirrels and birds. Paradise. May your day be a paradise as well. 🙂

Nothing like stillness and quiet to make a holiday perfect. Thanks for slipping by to share your window’s view!

Oh, that’s not so good about the squirrel. Sigh. Life marches on, right into April, and it May be filled with other such events. For now — happy greetings, and a wish that you got to bite the ears off a bunny. Those cards are fabulous. I especially like the last one — mostly because of the color. They’re all appealing.

It was insane. Why the darn squirrel didn’t jump up the fence, onto the crepe myrtle, climb the palm instead of dashing in and out of bushes is beyond me. It was worthy of a Chevy Chase movie…or 3 Stooges. We think Molly assumes squirrels are skinny cats with bushy tails – she and RC Cat play follow the leader all the time round and round. The worst Molly does is put a big wet nose on cat back…and get an immediate cat swat and reprimand which Molly steps back and grins over. Despite Molly’s giant paw, one of her favorite games is gently snatch up and carry a lizard to the patio, place it in the middle and dance around the flower pots/furniture with it until it managed to to the grass and disappear. She’s not interested in mauling things and was so excited the squirrel wanted to play chase. Peter’s sibling – the one who gets up early and heads 200 miles an hour down the fence line only returning to sleep – is still there. We’ll wait a bit longer before trimming the fronds. The palms are too tall for us to reach even with a ladder now. I do like the way they rattle in the wind
Stay snug during this storm (Of course you know this would be the one day we have to drive into the city..,.no, I refuse to move back there)
Contrast those greeting cards to the majority of what’s on the racks these days. (Is it the rough products changing people’s basic attitudes these days or the people being reflected by the products? Sigh)
We could all use a bit of stillness. Thanks for skipping quietly by with a basket load of comments

Happy Easter! Love the pictures. My favorite part of Easter remains coloring the eggs and going on an Easter egg hunt.

Real Easter eggs, not the plastic ones – that’s part of the joy. Messy memories.
The shells are so easy – but not the same. Leads to gifts inside which leads to bigger items (and demands, expectations, and competition among kids the next day at school) to the point where some think Easter is like Christmas.
Simple is good. Right now we could use some simple peace and quiet.
Hope your Easter rolled with the best of them!

That first picture reminds me of my first semester at Texas A&M University. I was roaming around the MSC bookstore and found a postcard of a Jackalop, a jackrabbit with antelope antlers. Uh-huh. I didn’t know about Aggie jokes before going to A&M but when I told my friends about it they told me it was probably in the Aggie Joke section of the bookstore. I went back the next day. Sure enough. All sorts of books with Aggie jokes in them.
