It seems like humans may have much brain power, but appear to have lost the survival skill of recognizing real danger by others. Over thinking instead of seeing. Dogs understand threats more clearly. Thanks for giving paws a nod.

Only a tiny bit of DNA difference between species, right? Things are certainly a muddle in the human jungle. May kindness and sanity become a virus and infect us all. Thanks for saluting the paws that protect

I wonder if those dogs even realize how useful they are to us humans? I bet from a dog’s pov sniffing is just something to do, no big deal. Not that theses dogs aren’t heroes, just that they’re so cool about their abilities. And I like that.

I think it depends on the dog and breed. There’s dog rescue pair locally who have been in places after earthquakes and 911. The handlers says her dog is very serious and know it doing something critical – saving a person. The dogs are so intense that the handlers must watch if they aren’t successful at finding a live person after a while – the dogs get visibly stressed and worried. They have to rotate the dogs in and out and sometimes “stage” a “live person rescue” or the dogs get depressed.
We had a Westie (rescue – we were his absolute last chance after multiple homes). He instantly assigned himself dog-on-duty if husband was traveling. Stood alert sentry duty for days until husband returned, then the dog would hop down from his window chair and I swear he would go over and say “Good. You’re home. You take over now” then go crash and sleep for a long time. Really strange little creatures. Work hard and play harder (sort of like college kids?HA HA) – we may be lucky they bother with us. Sense of failure or sense of loss apparently isn’t just a human trait. It seems we understand so little sometimes. Makes you wonder of all the potential around we never notice. Anyway hope your Easter is hoppy

A salute to Order of the Nose! Well said, Phil. I remember our discussion about the dogs who were sent in to Nepal after the earth quake there. Always on hand to help undo the mess we humans create. Alice, on the other hand, probably wouldn’t volunteer. Chinese Shar Pei are not known for their rescue powers…

Independent Alice, would likely yawn, saying she intelligently guards the castle/couch of the one she chose leaving the search and security of the general community to other paws. A place for every paw and every paw perfectly placed.
Alice, probably has that heavy dense coat and loose skin around the neck that protects certain breeds in combat and gives them the ability to maneuver in a fierce struggle. Certainly saved Molly. The security/police/military dogs generally don’t have or need that. It’s really funny sometimes to see the German run up and grab Molly’s collar and lead her over to show her something. Dogs have their own social behavior. Not sure if they are the clowns or we are. Thanks for saluting the paws

You are right Phil! That neck skin and bristly coat may not be soft and snuggly as a Husky but she can twist into a defensive position if needed (like when the Husky insists on attention). Paw waves to all in the Realm.
