Prada walks. Other fashion departures.

He was determined she’d not end up walking the streets as is the fashion of so many young girls. Having seen enough of the world to be wary, she never complained when he tied the rope. Daddy knew best.

Prada quietly played in her own yard as she had been told to while her dad was at work. Until the day when the world crashed in on her.

May only be named for royalty, but certainly not a throwaway. (Thomas Schmidt/Commons.wikimedia.org)

A violent incident you may remember. First Prada was dognapped, then used as a shield…well, actually tossed like a boulder, then shot by police. Left bleeding in the dirt with wounds deep enough to show bone while the police cars drove away with their prisoner.

Her owner, Robert Alexander, was distraught upon finding his injured pit bull. He tried to treat Prada himself, but soon realized it wasn’t working. And she was in pain. There simply wasn’t any money.

(Forgotten the injured pit bull’s video? Grab your tissues.)

Thanks to Pit Bull Rescue of Houston and Vergi Animal Hospital, Prada stepped out towards home this weekend.

And best news of all? She bounces on all fours!

Intense care managed to avoid the expected amputation. The medical and rehab bills were completely covered by public donations, Pit Bull Rescue of Houston, and the clinic’s Hope Fund.

Even better news?

Prada’s owner has rented a house with a very tall iron fence all around it. But, he said as he hugged Prada, “She’s an indoor dog now.”

Cheer the happy reunion and visit Prada at her new digs.

Some step out with style, while others….

Just when you thought the horror was over…©

No, not Crocs.

(What? One manufacturer of uglies isn’t enough? Heard those groans.)

These are Yogui by Keen.

See: like yoga. So they are OK.

Desirable even. (And the emperor has no clothes…..)

When living in an area where the backyard can quickly turn into a swamp with the gleefully dogs refusing to listen and come inside, you need kick-off shoes. Ones that easily wash. And there’s the floating potential, too.

These come in both women’s and men’s styles (some colorful ones.) Know you are thrilled about that.

Wait! They have cool soles, actually fit, and support your foot unlike Crocs.

My experiences with Crocs is that those are like wearing giant rubber shoe boxes on your feet.

Expensive spiked heel Prada Sandal (www.prada.com/en/US)

Form follows function. Zipper gives easy on and off, similar open slashes allow water to drain, but the spiked heel would really sink in soggy ground. So, no.(www.prada.com)

Perhaps a horrifying fashion departure, but clown shoes do have a place.

Like possums, spiders, and snakes which play a critical roles in nature. (So they keep telling me.)

Shoes aren’t alive, but it’s the same thing. Really.

There are always those who have to do the dirty work and are looked down on.

Work with me here. Or at least be kind enough to laugh waaaay over there.

Frank-n-flippers. Zappos offers pages of reviews by people delighted with them.

Most by anonymous reviewers.

Shame? Guilt? Trying to save the family name and dignity? Probably.

Not that anyone needs to be embarrassed about wearing Yogui this time of year. You can always say they were part of your Halloween costume.

Horror be done. Steppin’ out in guile.

Ha! This is quite an apropos post. None of those funny shoes for me, but a pair of barn-and-muck boots, winging their way to me even as we speak. Good Amazon. Fetch! I decided early on that if I was going to be roaming the countryside — especially marshes, bayous and such — a pair of boots better than white shrimper boots was going to be necessary. I did see some very fashionable ones, but I went with plain, mud-colored. We’ll see. Who knew that boots were necessary camera equipment?

Hooray for Prada, and thanks for the update. It’s always good to pause for your paws stories!

The way this weather is shaping up, even the dogs may need Wellies. It’s either Amazon or Academy if I’m over that way for some sloshers…really regretting I wore out those ancient after ski moon boots that were wonderful for walking dogs in Houston’s January sleet and swamp. They were puffy insulated white plastic with stripes…and yes my family did pretend not to know me…but none of them offered to take the dogs out!
Impressed with your new camera efforts. Soon you’ll be into the WP photography ranks.

I cross my paws for Prada and I wish her all the best. That crocs and all their plastic bros and sistas are banned here since my mom smashed her hellbow. with the first raindrop you turn into an ice princess and not all princesses can stand a triple rittberger :o)

Oh, Easy, you are right. These flexible sliders could be trainers for ice skating. The German seems convinced they are fancy chew toys…light and easy to run with! Dogs clearly know how things work. Paws up for Prada – and may more pups find shelter and safety. Thanks for running by and kicking up a little mud!

Yay for Prada! Resourceful just like her namesake. I also have muck shoes by the back door for those days mostly wintery or spring when filling the bird feeders is an adventure. I found some nifty overshoes that you slide over your sneakers. Then I also have croc knockoffs which require concentration to stay on my feet.

One Christmas I was given some off road soled Crocs – that despite my initial scorn became well used. The only problem is that they are easy to slip and trip…especially with large dog feet standing on them (Crocs were protective in that situation, so it’s a trade off.) We’ll see how these go as they actually fit. With the swamp, it’s convenient to just hose them off. Squirrels are complaining our bird feeder isn’t out yet, but right now there’s plenty of locally grown organics available for them…but they are making reservations for January. Thanks for slipping by with a comment

So glad to hear the update on Prada. How wonderful everything went okay, and a huge high-five to those who donated money to pay for her treatment and recovery.

What I’d be interested in knowing is how much money the police officers who shot Prada chipped into her health fund. They should be ashamed of themselves, leaving a wounded dog like that. They had the bad guy in the car, so how much longer would it have taken for them to care for the dog before taking the bad guy into the station? Honestly. *shakes head in dismay*

Easy.None. Crickets. Public was/is outraged.Especially because the city/county both have emergency animal vans ( they saved a kitten stuck in a drain on the freeway recently, right?) One of those police cars couldn’t carry the poor dog to the ER vet and leave a note for the owner. Still grrrr-ng over the cruelty. Thanks for growling along

Great 💥➋💥… you reminded me of the movie Devil wears Prada….
Such an eloquent and witty post….
I love your sense of humour… I was thinking how easier life is when we wear flip-flops, sigh…
Thanks so much for sharing. Sending best wishes. Aquileana 🐉☀️

Even that movie title makes me smile – a fun show with personality types and conflicts certainly recognizable.
Right now flip flops are more slip slosh. And it looks like we may have to wear actual shoes this approaching chilly winter – ones with closed toes! Such trials. Always enjoy your visits. Thanks for strolling over to chat

Best foot forward for some occasions. Noah, the German Shepherd was another brutal story that broke about the same time, but Noah’s safe now and in a foster home with a prosthetic leg/paw donations and Large Dog Rescue of Houston paid for. The brutality of humans is incomprehensible – fortunately there are many who are good and right such wrongs. Wish that was a virus that could spread.
Shoes. Thought Earth Shoes had turned the corner on that, but it must be a traffic circle event? HAHA. Thanks for shoo-ing in a comment

Glad to hear the good news on Prada. She seems like a resilient girl. As for those Keens, I’m a BIG fan of Keen shoes, but I won’t order any of those silly clown colors. Raising Daisy deer taught me a lot about neutral and muted colors being more “wildlife” friendly. 🙂

They come in different sensible colors – oddly the UK site has more than the US. The “art” ones must have been created for the suburbs and yoga studio crowds. MAybe for real artists who are always dripping paint on their feet? Never heard of these shoes until I saw them on extreme closeout and needed mud shoes. Nothing cheaper HA HA. If you are right maybe they will scare off any rodents looking for a resort for the winter. Thanks for trodding this path

The title was not about what I thought it would be but a great story! Good for Prada! My son does some volunteer work with Dachshund Rescue of Houston. The Crocs and new shoe are ugly but I can see where they would be practical for wet weather but I would leave them at the back door.

Prada’s story just renews your faith that there are good people out there, doesn’t it?
I’ve thought about hammering a hook to hang the clown shoes outside at the back door, but they might just fill up with all these blustery storms. Hope the Trinity and other waterways push that water down to the bay quickly – another batch of storms on the way shortly. Thanks for floating a comment this way

It will be a grand day when the general population cares about dogs et al as much as they do about designer shoes. Maybe Prada’s name will help raise the profile.
    Your Yogui’s are very… errr… bright. You won’t lose them 🙂

Nothing like an extreme closeout discount to raise my awareness. Never heard of these before. Anything that’s completely able to be hosed off and dries quickly is a winner for backyard shoes.
Pleased that in yesterday’s election people in Harris County voted bonds for improving and adding on to the county animal rescue/control/adoption department.Prada’s plight and story could have been the big motivation for voters. (and Noah, an badly abused German Shepherd, who was rescued, healed, and now in foster care with a prosthetic front leg by Large Dog Rescue group. Grim story. Dogs are so forgiving). So many needing help. (And you have to shake your head at the brutal humans walking free out there). Thanks for stepping over and barking along

Yes! Should have put Noah, the rescued badly abused German Shepherd, there too – he also went home from the vet – with a new prosthetic front paw – also paid for by donations, and Big Dog Rescue. Really happy to say Tues voters voted extra money for the county rescue and animal shelter. I think Noah and Prada’s story helped with that. Paw waves to the fur princess at your house!

I’m glad they were able to save Prada. What a horrible ordeal. Those shoes are definitely colorful. I have yard slippers that I can get muddy. I’ve been known to wear them to the store too. I’m not proud of that!
