Growing rotten

Between the excruciating heat, the emerging childish boredom, and endless daylight hours, July promotes rot.

Tomatoes baking on crisping vines. Ah, summer. A local farm where you pick your own produce. ©

Spring plants smiles: tomato blooms on vines, complexions glowing with tans, a general light-hearted giddiness.

That all quickly wilts.

By July many desperately seek shelter and amusement in shopping and malls.

It helps if they arrive as the doors open, not before.

Use the front one and let the hard-working clerks finish stocking before making demands.

Seriously, robbing the Dollar Store? Setting goals a bit low. Just how much money do you think they have before opening?

Dropping the gun might be a good idea – but not like this. Dropping an unsecured gun out of pocket or waistband while tying up workers and accidentally shooting a poor woman in the back is certainly not professional.

Was this robbery attempt a practice like using training wheels when learning to ride a bike? In any case suggest a certain individual should try another direction…like getting a job.

Clumsy is not a legal defense.

Of course, mall entertainment includes Parking Lot Car Rodeo events.

Upon completing a fast round-up of items last week at one local mall, we got back in the saddle-stitched car seats and moseyed toward the closest exit chute opening into trail to home.

Only to pull up with a big Whoa – and to witness some serious woe.

A seemingly undamaged Mini Cooper was angled across the road – the driver’s door flung open wide. The little car looked frozen in shock at being abandoned and at the scene in full view of its’ headlights. In front of the Mini was another stopped car with a large woman sprawled across that car hood screaming, yelling, kicking and beating on the windshield. You could see her head bobbing back and forth as she violently attacked that glass.

Not seeing a Hollywood movie crew with cameras, we decided to steer around that whole wacky rodeo. Hot tempers can lead to hot lead, and we’d had enough adventure for one day. 911 can rein in that stampede.

Shopping on-line is looking more and more attractive.

Was it a simply a confused concept? When in Texas, ya’ wanted to try bulldogging, but couldn’t find an available calf for practice? Or trying to start a trend of suburban mall rodeo steer wrestling? Lookin’ for YouTube hits?

Newcomers here don’t always get it right. Some things get lost in translation.

Mom, noooo. Don’t leave me here all alone. So vulnerable. So afraid – Now, of you, too….Shivering in my hub caps.©

There are times when it’s best to keep quiet. Jabbering on too much at the wrong time can be dangerous.

Therapists say there’s a preferred way to argue with a spouse – you know, “fight fair”.

One Dallas man should have signed up for a course in conflict resolution.

Utilized a pretty drastic way to get his wife to shut up. An innocent TV suffered, too.

Waited two days before calling police. Was he waiting to see if she took his hint? Silence may be golden but as a legal defense?

Now that’s a collection of really rotten behavior.

Classic throw overly ripe tomatoes at them rotten.

No doubt, Shakespeare, having dealt with some stinkers himself, would be one of the first to initiate crushed veggie reviews for such dunderheaded acts as these.

Way out in left field for July.

(If you care a fig, there’s some over there…on the left..next row…keep going…)

Phil, the Philosopher Mouse of the Hedge.

Talk about jabbering. That last incident has an odd connection with the 8 Word Comment Challenge that debuted in the last post: Knowing when enough is enough.

Coincidence you say? Really it is. Still if you’re gaming, 8 words or less it is. But as things do tend to grow during the summer, branch out with additional spouting if you please. Please!

Robbing a dollar store? Yeah, that seems rather counterintuitive. Terrible what happened to the clerk.

As for the wilting, we’re still in the green lushness of June rains here in Ohio. But I know come July things will dry up, and by August our grass will have a lovely brown hue.

Just easy pickings close to home? How lazy was he? Goodness, catch the bus and stop being an underachiever. Go for the gold! (Plenty of pawn shops around.) The poor lady is doing ok in the hospital, but her/family’s life wrecked for a while. And after the practice session, the would be robber is still out there.
Not even the overheated Dog Days of Summer yet. (early adopters here, I guess). All the plants are very very green right now – so abnormal. What’s really odd is that the Galveston hotels are saying they are having huge numbers of cancelations with people thinking Tropical Storm Bill destroyed the island/beaches. That was just a little rain storm, and Galveston, an island, drains instantly. The frenzy of “news” media is so wonderful. Hope your week is lush with fun. Thanks for pruning up a comment to plant here

Thank you, and yes, there is not a story the media can’t ‘frenzify.’ (And apparently there’s not a word I can’t invent…)

Wow, the summer crazies have set in, haven’t they? Something about the heat makes everyone a bit wonky.

Doorknobs. More proof that German Shepherds are smarter than zombies.(And the German thanks you for pointing out she is not just being over protected by barking at anything that moves in a 3 block area.) Thanks for cultivating a great comment

It seems like each driver wants that “special” designation – and a for everyone else to get off the road. Soon it may be necessary to hire a helicopter and drop in like a combat squad…or just stay home and play with the sensible: dogs. Thanks for not running in traffic, Easy!

I bet even then they would howl-i-copter around the shoe store like crazy bats , so my mom had no chance with her broomstick :o)

How about renting a Zamboni…Move it or lose it should be a shoe-in? I’m about ready to consider a giant Harvester tractor…they come with AC now. Molly likes tall windows to look out. So look out rotten divers, right Easy?

Wilting has yet to occur. Torrential rain yesterday has left the feeders soggy, angry birds complaining loudly this morning. So chilly I need socks and actually resorted to a fire in the fireplace last night! Save the wood! Winter is just around the corner!!

Wait, let me turn down the AC for your visit. Now that should be more comfortable. Molly wistfully dreams of staff in socks and sweaters…right now it’s just sweat and dash outside. We only had a few showers yesterday ( 50 miles from here it was flooding) and only had to run frantically home in flipflops when thunder/rain caught once. Molly, who has a waterproof coat apparently though it was great fun: Staff can run…she won’t forget….Birds and squirrels are really busy between storms. Nothing like natural entertainment for dogs. Good you have a pack to keep you warm. Thanks for branching out with a comment

We’re having a wet and cool day today, so reading about hot tempers down your way reminds me of how summer is supposed to be! Warm and sunny, not violent and disturbing. To be clear. I mean.

See, that’s the weird thing, it’s not extreme heat right now. Clouds have been keeping it cooler – and usually this is when most people take vacations and leave. At this rate, August is going to be dreadful. Looks like brain storms this year will be as dangerous as hurricanes. Good reason to sit and watch the garden grow. Thanks for planting a comment

In Napa today where hopefully most of the (other) tourists have left after the weekend. It’s going to be very hot today, so we’ll try to avoid shooting anyone or smothering anyone and just enjoy our wine tasting and picnicking instead.

Hard to say. Both parked as shown when we arrive. No signs of crash damage. Could have been a domestic abuse or simply road rage if the front car cut off the Mini turning into the exit drive. Everyone was tippy toeing away ASAP. The incident not interesting/bloody/odd enough to make the local news…People attacking cars. Now that’s just sad. thanks for driving that comment over
