Today’s the day. And they’re off. Made it across the courtyard to see what their neighbors are having for breakfast.©
Fly back to see mom on the nest or the fledglings feeling a bit insecure.
Flights of feathers or fancy are always worth the time.

Even the German loves the little ones – She’s kept a close eye on them. Now they’re off to see the world. Safe flight, little birds! Thanks for winging over to cheer them

It won’t be long until I’m seeing the baby bluejays. Moms and dads are flying backandforthandbackandforth etc., like crazy. It’s a wonderful time of year, and stressful, too. I saw a mama duck with seventeen babies at Watergate last week. And we think we’ve got problems!

There are a lot of bird parents bustling around. Wonder if they are trying to get the kids up and moving while the weather’s good?
Will have to wander by to look for that duck family: 17 ducklings. Whew!
(Oh, I looked yesterday, and we park at Robinson’s park/prairie area off to the left just before the real Pine Gully Park/Maas street on the right after the bridge. There’s a couple of new spots right at the bridge. Great breezes so far in the later afternoon. Lots of runners and bikes…but not bad considering tourist season is coming! )

Oh, the little birds are so cute and funny this time of year. And the Mom’s are all a flutter trying to encourage and yet keep safe their charges. Where I last worked there was a big pine tree not far from the employees entrance. The company had thoughtfully put a few picnic tables under the tree. When May came we realized quickly that there were a number occupied nests in the big tree. At first, the Mom’s would dive bomb anyone who sat at the tables. Then the babies started their flight school. Oddly enough, the Mom’s seemed to get used to us, and permitted us back to sit under the tree while the babies were training. They young ones would swoop down from the branches and land on the ground, not always gracefully. then Mom would sit on a branch and holler at them to get back up into the tree. the little ones would a first chirp back for her to com and get them but she would not budge. Eventually the little ones would start their wobbly flight zigging and zagging around the tree and would land sideways on the tree trunk , half way up. After a short rest and some more hollering, tey would jump off and zig zag some more until they landed higher up in the tree. It sometimes took 3 or 4 tries to eventually get back close to Mom.
It was hilarious to watch. I wish your babies the best.

What a funny story! Lucky pine trees have all that rough bark to grab onto. It is comical to watch them the first few flight days. We have 3 fuzzy mocking birds tumbling around and off a Lantana bush outside the window today. Those mom really do holler.
Another spring, and another group winging off to see the world. Thanks for flying in to chat ( and soooo behind on the blog right now…:)

This mom picked an excellent spot: interior atrium area with no cats or dogs except staring through windows….lots of landing perches for practice, too. We were surprised how fast these little guys grew up. Now they’re off. Thanks for gazing along

Fun that you got to watch them leave the nest. Birds love our backyard and I often find myself staring out the window, mesmerized by their birdy activities. They are always so busy!

There’s a couple of very fuzzy mockingbirds toddling around the Lantana bush outside the window today. Win-win for the mom: food available there and it’s less than 2 feet to the ground when they fall off. HAve to wonder if all the birds are trying to get their littles up and moving while the weather is good. It is something like watching fish in an aquarium. Thanks for flying in with a comment

My daughter usually has wrens raising their families in the planters over her front porch. We only know they’re there because when she waters, they squawk. This year though, they seem to be in the bushes that are under the planters. We could hear them but not see them. I think it’s a better place but unfortunately closer to cats (if there are any hanging around all her dogs).

Today we have 3 barely able to fly and hop fluffy sparrows bouncing around the lantana bush (bird’s outdoor diner). Mom’s keeping watch but staying at a distance. It’s a protected area so they can fall off and struggle their way back up without too much danger. They are really working so hard. Thanks for feathering the nest with a comment

They live in a nice safe spot. Lots of dogs and cats to watch through their windows, but no one to chase them. Soon the little ones will be skilled at flight stunts and off to see the world. Soft nose kisses to you Binky!

The Mom appears to be smugly taking a break. She’s napping on the nest while the littles are trying to figure out how to get back there. They are a pretty little bunch. Thanks for flying a comment into this nest

There are a pair of mourning doves that have created a nest on my back patio and laid two eggs in it. Unfortunately, it’s very low, at chest height, and in a corner between the bedroom window and the living room sliding glass door. In other words, a corner that gets heavily used. Fortunately, they are accustomed to me opening and closing doors and windows, as well as going outside to water my plants, and don’t fly away anymore. They just sit there and watch me, knowing that they are safe and sound. The eggs should hatch in another 5 or 6 days. I’m so excited.

What is it about doves? The who bunch must have missed the training sessions on “Where and how to build a proper nest.” Keep an eye on them. The little ones are hilarious the first few days of flight school. (Zoey may find it comical, too) Thanks for being friend of birds

Zoey the Cool Cat discovered the nest, and the bird on the nest, a couple of days ago. I had to lower the blinds in the bedroom……….

HA! RC Cat would be drumming those blinds until you pulled your hair out. But then again, Zoey is cool.
Rain moving in here – but it’s not Tornado Alley. Not a big fan of earthquakes or tornado – especially at night. Enjoy the spring weather there – it’s bound to be wonderful….and just right for the little feathered ones
