Sometimes, all you can do is laugh. I’m hope I’m still laughing once I’ve driven into Houston in this slop — and back again. I don’t want ice, and I do love fog, but not when I have to make The Trek. Ah, well. If it were 60 and sunny, I’d be irritated because I was losing good work time, so there you are. 🙂

This isn’t exactly the cold soup we wanted. (A spicy gazpacho with cucumbers might be nice, but this constant fog…) We’re all going to be investing in miner’s forehead lights. We’ll be in summer’s endless glare soon enough. Thanks for signaling through the murk.

it looks like magic… but since my momma failed with the double rittberger at the iced parking lot, she rather drinks lukewarm coke than to use ice :o)

Ice on green things looks all wrong to me. Should be on drab gray or brown or white things. And definitely not on cactus. Trippy.

I know Amazon and internet sellers are drop shipping a lot know, but freezing prickly pears before boxing them up to make sure they arrive fresh? Early blooming trees here are insisting it’s their turn and are refusing to let a little icy freeze them out of their fashion season. Most of us are ready for a bit of sun, too. Sharp photo! This is why my parents cover their cacti if a freeze warning comes up. Don’t know that they’ve ever had ice like this, though, in the Phoenix area.

Cool, that’s like some kind of weird oxymoron: “iced cactus”. Good thing cacti are shorter than trees. In the north, that would have been a tree and the weight of the ice would have broken a bunch of branches which would have fallen on power lines, knocking out power to thousands of people!

This is the winter that just won’t end. We get a bit of a warm up tomorrow but then possibly 3-6 inches of snow on Thursday. And our trees looked a lot like that cactus on Monday morning. Of course, ice isn’t uncommon around here. But on a cactus? That’s something I never expected to see!

SUN! We had sun..a small bit after the fog left and before it rolled back in. 70’s! But temps are expected to drop to 40 quickly tomorrow during the day as another front moves in. The red buds, the pears, the azaleas are blooming. The citrus tree is ready to open – and one brave impatient that has managed to survive it all is blooming. Ducks are leaving and headed your way. (but maybe don’t break out the shorts and sandals yet…) Thanks for warming up the comment basket

That was just such an odd picture – so this winter.Right now it’s almost 80, but supposed to drop some 40 degrees in the next few hours. Next few days windy, wet, and bitter cold….where’s the freeze line? Do the palms need coats? (oh, ugh!) Well, will have plenty of winter/cold experiences to draw on for writing. Toe socks might work perfectly for palm fronds; shrugs for delicate flowers!

Toe socks could work on the aloe vera, too! Pillowcases and beach towels snugging up palms for the night….so it’s almost guaranteed to freeze not get very cold. That’s the way it works: Sun actually came out for an hour! Cheers

Love that photo. Never seen that on mine! Actually, the only sort-of frost we see is in the dip on the track. Prickly pears are cool. Live within their environment. Lesson there?

That picture was so unique – captured during a central TX trail ride. We had some prickly pears that didn’t have any thorns at all. Grew like crazy, but there was room for it. Cattle ate it so it didn’t take over the pasture. The thorns make an icy coat much more dramatic. Probably still difficult to handle even iced. Glad you stepped over cautiously to leave a comment

This is funny! There is just something so odd about ice and snow on cacti! Many years ago there was a light dusting of snow in Phoenix and seeing it on the Saguaros was just bizarre.

Snow on cacti is pretty bizarre. Recently you’ve gotten big dust storms and winter cold – now that just doesn’t seem fair. Climate requirements need to be reviewed! Thanks for sending a chilled comment
