Dog warming

Isolated log cabin. Secluded home with view. Barely tolerable house with fantastic float plane garage. Outhouse. Heated outhouse.

Wake up! Wake up! Buying Alaska is on over and over and over again. The warm Italian coast show was over hours ago.

Hibernating much overrated.

Maybe the cat is right. If you’d get up, you’d not have cold.

Do I look like the Snow Queen? No need to see Russia from my front porch. I can see snowy clumps falling from my couch.©

Molly here. Staff is a lump on the couch.

The Alaskan snow pack and tissue drift here: alike, but different: avalanches possible.

No doubt a direct result of the cat bashing Staff on the head repeatedly demanding dinner.

Has nothing to do with my leap onto the couch to warm Staff who has cold.

The cat. Blame the cat. Molly is here to help.

What? Remove the blanket corner from my mouth? A little damp. The cat did it. Oh, it does appear to be hanging out of my mouth. After an early life on the streets, it’s normal to try and hold on to what you have. Besides Staff discourages the mouthing and mauling of sleeves even out of affection.

Uggs are so much tastier – toastier. But Staff says 80 degrees is too hot for Uggs. I say, ignore the damp bunny on the right. Nothing to see there. Hop-a-long now. ©

Odd Staff has been sprawled on the couch all day.

Not much available space, so let me just drape a leg or two over there, and a chin here…so I can see if – yes, the eyes do open.

Warmer now? Cold gone? Walkie?

Well, it appears Staff is moaning something about needing up.

Yes. I can help do that! Dogs are known for their happy tales!

Take the tale of an old Beagle in rural Texas.

Having only recently found a forever home, Buddy was not going to risk losing his Person. How could he be sure the frantic men in the Big Red Moving Box were OK? So he leaped onto the rear running board and clung on for 20 miles as the ambulance raced towards the hospital until another driver flagged them down. Whew.

Note to Staff: Buddy gets to honk the horn.

I could honk the horn, too, but Staff won’t let me behind the wheel.

Have you noticed how good I have gotten at turning on the overhead lights?

I think you need to settle back down – that honking you are making is pretty weak. Never be good enough for the Moving Box. Better practice my paw work just in case? No? OK.

Ready for another up?

Some puppies just got the move-in date a little mixed up. Almost a disaster.

Some of us know how difficult life on the street is especially in frigid weather. So when the pack heard there was a shelter opening up, they ran right over. Although the accommodations weren’t quite finished, they young pups decided best to huddle inside anyway. Maybe the security guard winked and just let them be. Despite an unexpected blaze, the entire pack was rescued by firemen, placed in the fire truck, and are now safe and snug until forever homes can be found for them.

http://www.click2houston.com/news/fire-destroys-unfinished-facility-designed-for-homeless/29791222

Something nudged the dogs to that place. Now all that’s needed for a happy tail ending is for their luck to hold and forever arms to hold them. Their temporary lodgings are here.

Hopefully the homeless men and women this shelter was being built for will also find safety and a warm happy life. It is the season of good will towards man and beast.

Warming up? Still got cold?

OK. How about shelter dogs nobody wanted rescuing others?

Now that’s worth a wiggle. A real treat. Dogs rock.

What? Taking up all the room? Well, dog rocking does tend to move objects over.

I have seemed to have sunken into a horizontal position along the couch back.

Pretty warmish here now. Cold gone?

Time to fix dinner? Great. Nothing like the oven to chase off a chill.

What? Head cold? Why didn’t you say so? I thought only the blanket-covered parts had cold.

That darn cat. She’s in charge of sitting on heads.

Always says she’s on top of things. (Snort.)

At least change the TV channel on the way to the kitchen. Snow blind by now.

Either The Amazing Race or an NFL game to get the blood and paws moving!

Or CSI: Miami. Much less cold there than Alaska.

Nothing like a house warming, right?

Smiles à la carte.

Yours in paws,

Molly, the Marvelous Malamute

Hey. You can open the freezer, right? Mom has cold so she won’t need that ice cream, so how about dishin’ some up for me? Fine. Some for yourself, too.©

Helping herself to reachable snacks…so Staff doesn’t have to bother! It’s a holiday tradition here: decorating with tissues! If the weather would stop widely swinging from hot to frigid…
Thanks for commiserating – that’s warming!

A friend of mine sent me the story of Buddy the beagle – what a good boy! Hope staff is feeling better soon – with all the help, it’s only a matter of time. And in keeping with all of the wonderful dog stories, here’s one I saw this morning – an extreme sports team from Sweden racing in the Amazon was adopted by a stray who stuck with them the 430 miles of the race and then was adopted – http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2846228/Meet-Arthur-stray-dog-followed-extreme-sports-team-grueling-430-mile-race-Amazon-rainforest-refused-leave-finish.html

Have a Happy Thanksgiving, Molly! (and also to RC and the rest of the staff)

Cool story! Just goes to show, if you get some attention, there’s a home waiting.
We seem to have a holiday sneezing tradition thanks to the cold weather one day, hot the next with rain in between season. There’s some famous poem which has a line about a serving girl, Joan, and her raw and running nose – used to use that to show poetry wasn’t all flowers, cupids, and beauty….also I can identify with Joan this time of year….
Thanks for tossing a comment from a safe distance.
      Gobble on!

Thank God you have Molly to take care of you. There is nothing like a cat sleeping on the head either. What do people without pets do to recover?

I will gladly help with the ice cream, Molly. Hope Staff is feeling better soon (and that the weather stops moving wildly from one extreme to another — it’s like summer here today, after freezing last week!).

Last week it was freezing, yesterday 80. It seems like the fall cold is a Thanksgiving tradition here…no I’m not cooking…no, not faking it to get out of cooking (insert giggles)
Molly is convinced ice cream is good for anything! Paw waves in thanks

Did you ever go to the grocery store and while you are checking out you realize the checker has a runny nose, sneezing and touching everything you have? Turkey is as good as chicken soup. Get ready to gobble. Thanks for popping in with a comment

You have been traveling quite a bit recently.
Knocking on wood about that big storm headed across the next few days. What timing. We’re staying close by…but may try to get the German over to see Molly…the back yard needs tilling by running dog paws…grass is highly over-rated. Hope the pre-turkey days are calm for you

Those are heartwarming if not cold warming stories 😉 Molly & RC will do their best to have you up and about, out of concern of course for your wellbeing rather than catering but rest up, or down on the couch. Happy holidays:)

Sorry about your lump on the couch days. It’s bound to happen what with this crazy fluctuation in weather patterns. I carry those sanitizing wipes everywhere. I haven’t resorted to wearing a mask yet though, but I can tell you if I hear coughing in the isle of a store, I hold my breath and vamoose several isles over before resuming breathing! I hope staff is up to snuff soon!

More sun and less sneezes today. (There’s something about grey weather that makes feeling bad much worse – only energy for blanket huddling.)
It’s amazing how fast you can zoom that grocery cart around to the the closest empty aisle to avoid crossing potential sickie paths, right? Thanks for the healing thoughts. Hope you and yours are snug and warm for Thanksgiving

Much less sneezy today – with the tissue snowflakes slowing. Much warmer on dog walks to the lake today. Molly’s ready to romp in a field with friends tomorrow. The muddy dog bath in the shower is worth her happy face. Happy paw waves and hopes for a stella week for you, too. Thanks for skiing in with a comment!

Molly: I hope your Staff member feels better soon. Please tell her that her bunny slippers are classic and i know you appreciate them as I can see that one bunny is slghtly damp. Her socks remind me of the Wizard of OZ. ha! She might be amused to know that I know how to completely avoid colds. I haven’t had one in 8 years. The problem is that the process is far far worse than the cold.I am a dialysis patient and have been for 8 years. in that time i have never had a cold – and I used to get one or two a year, every year. Lots and lots of other serious complications like nerve damage and fluid on the lungs and such – but no colds. In fact, the dialysis unit dialyzes about 30 of us at once, and i’ve never even heard a sneeze. It may be the dialysis, but I doubt it. Dialysis removes all sorts of things that it shouldn’t including vitamins A, C, D and Folic Acid. So every day I take suppliments to replace these. My guess is that my levels are always up and very constant – I suspect that may be part of the reason for the cold-free life.

My advice would be to be happy with the cold and thankful thats it. This is the time for you to swing into action Molly. Which ,means you should help keep her warm and get RC Cat to heat up her head. Do a few chores for your sick Staff member like keeping the ice cream supply under control, and chewing her slippers to make sure they remain soft and supple (a technique used by old-time Native Americans to soften leather).

May all be well soon Molly and you can go back to owning the couch. Give a wave to your Staff for me.

Molly (Bouncing!) “You are right. Mouthing slippers keeps them warm – I knew instinct was appropriate. Between you and me, I got a little carried away last year and the bunny on the right sort of came partway off. Staff healed it back.
Staff takes all sorts of vitamins and supplements and get sunshine each day if possible. But stress and sitting in doctor waiting rooms/ERs with Dad Staff probably invites germy assaults. Not to mention the grocery checker who sneezed all over everyone and everything in line. Would be better if all people would stay on their couches when sickie-poo. Less sneezy and more longer dog walks in the sun and fresh today. Get those germs out of the lungs – run…stumble quickly? A great idea to keep that cold ice cream away from Mom Staff….RC Cat can even have a bite or two…all for a good cause! Paw waves!!!”

This was cute, but having a cold (and being cold) are not! The worst is the mountain of tissues… and still not being able to breathe. I hope you feel better soon! BTW, I really like those slippers and socks…. had to laugh at ignoring the wet one on the right… pets are sooo helpful sometimes 🙂

For some reason, Molly found great comfort in mouthing that right bunny when she first came. She’d find and scurry off unseen to her crate where she “buried” it under bedding. The bunny kindly tolerated a poor uncertain doggy, but has never been the same. (There’s something about stuffed bunnies…the German mindlessly mouthed off the ear of a stuffed bunny that her person had stored here. Some instinct about bunnies…) Now Molly has graduated from her crate, she does sometimes get caught mouthing the bedspread. (We are officially nuts)
Less sneezy and more sunny today. It’s always better if I can get out and walk in the sun. Hope you manage some sun this holiday – need to chase that storm away! Paw waves and smiles to ya’

Molly keeps thinking RC Cat is trying to high five her and cheerfully lifts her giant paw to respond in like…Not going over well. Poor pup is so confused – can’t fathom the cat is saying “Back off, Big Foot!” But while they are busy, I’ll grab the sunny spot. Thanks for the warming comment
