Who do Facebook. Vous deux.
Facebook. Viewed as a blessing and a curse. Such uncertain territory that small children are banned and dog participation is forbidden.(You know how dogs sniff odd things out.)
Despite all that, the time has come for a leap of faith.
The fickle finger of Fate does beckon.
No, really, you hold Fate in your finger. So wiggle yours and get ready.
A fellow blogger, Roxie Hanna, took a deep breath recently and launched a publishing company Sunscribe.
If you don’t know Roxie’s blog, you should.
It’s a collection of treasures: writing advice, series like “Ghostwriting 101” and “Effective Editing”, trends in the book industry, publishing info, contests, writing opportunities, and hilarious cartoons.
And now with Sunscribe Publishers, she looks for authors, illustrators, and freelance editors. So there’s potential for you serious writers and artists there. This is not a vanity press. Read about their vision of collaborative partnering with writers.
Publishing is a tough business – especially for a brand new company.
So here’s the deal. Roxie could use a bit of help. From her blog:
“….we at Sunscribe are excited to announce a way for you to participate in a unique prospect as we grow: help us secure a $150,000 grant from Chase.
Now before you reach for your wallet to verify we haven’t lifted it, let me give you the quick and dirty. Just a VOTE. That’s all we need.
We applied for this grant because we see this opportunity to secure funding without debt for our traditional publishing model.
….Go ahead, Let us know you support us as we partner with writers.”
Here’s the link. Click and vote for Sunscribe.
You can only vote once, but no one’s stopping you from suggesting others click over and vote, too.
It’s a Facebook thing, but if you’re not a “member”, there’s nothing stopping you from contacting those you know who are Facebook users and giving them a nudge.
Oh, you’re not a writer or an artist – just a reader?
Is it just me or does it seem only well-known authors, politicians and their relatives, celebrities, even famous people’s pets have an easier time getting published than anyone else?
Make sure there’s plenty of writing out there worth reading: Support small independent publishers.
The fate of words really is in your hand.

I was a small business owner – with Hallmark as my major competition – so I have an idea of what you are facing. Your blog has helped many bloggers. Happy to be able to return the favor.
Word Press Bloggers: all for one and one for all. This is an amazing community. Thanks for being willing to jump off that cliff

I had no idea! Wow! Yes it is a cliff. You bet we are all in this together and WordPress is the great equalizing tool!

Good information. Thanks. And yes, it does seem celebrities get published awfully easy, including their fiction. I’m not jealous. Not jealous at all…

Let’s change that Carrie! We partner with writers…are you looking for a publisher?

I was being a bit cheeky. I do have a publisher for my first book, but it’s not one of the Big Five like the celebrities get. 🙂

And RC Cat is always miffed. If staff would only work/try a little harder and become famous, then she would easily find a publisher for her memoirs and cat tales….Obviously she could approach publishers herself but One just doesn’t do that in her position…..
(And you are not being distracted at all from real writing….giggles – always glad when you sneak over to chat)

Not heard from Roxie since I mailed her, wasn’t sure if it as still going. Pippa and I chucked FB years ago but I could sneak under the radar as Partner (he never looks either).

Hey Roxie! I’m doing one step forward and two backwards due to broken ankle. But still, I can edit books from sofa so life could be worse.
Pleased to hear you are getting somewhere. These things take time. I’ll mosey over to cast my partners vote on terrible FB!

Oh no! Irony, that’s life. We have delayed opening for subs other than our test last year for our debuts. Each of those had an editor assigned, but when we open for subs, we’ll need YOU! I will get back in touch.

That’s fine. All I need is an indication of required timescale and style guidelines eg strict Chicago or whatever. For discussion, whenever, and good luck with the grant app 🙂 .

The blog is great !!!… And I subscribed to it… I wonder why Facebook doesn’t allow dogs to participate… If they accept all those numerous personal states (related with sexual orientation and their consequent practices) bla, well they should be coherent and transfer that mental openness at least to other beings, including Man’s best buddies…:P
Thank you very much for sharing. best wishes!!!, Aquileana 😀

Maybe it’s because dogs shed and the fluff clutters thing up? Or complete honest is just too hard to face? Doggone if I know, but they kicked a bunch of Dog authors off not long ago.
Glad you discovered Roxie’s place – always cool stuff there. Thanks for clicking along

Aquileana, super to know you! Thank you for your vote and support. Perhaps as a united front we can represent dogs on FB as hearitly as cats are, lol!

Interesting. I’m always curious about how normal people get a book published. Never thought that it was possible, to be honest. Will hope over to Sunscribe and see what’s up. Thanks for the link.
