Products for the back-against-the-wall self-defense.
Those looking for thrills or swagger props should go elsewhere.
Taking aim at beverage distributors looking to expand their markets with little regard for public safety or common sense.
Guns and alcohol do not make a palatable mix.
Each bang in their own appropriate place and time.

BOB! Great to see you again. I couldn’t agree more with your comments. You are indeed a deep thinker – far more so than the liquor board. Having a bar at a gun show is like passing every patron of a bar a gun as they enter. YEE HA! Texas shall forever remain wild.

The TABC proposal is supposedly “pro-rights” but is actually more ‘gun control’ in disguise. Currently many organizations, like the NRA, Ducks Unlimited, private gun clubs like the Dallas Arms Collector Association, have award banquets or fund raisers where firearms/ammunition are sold or raffled off.
The proposal would effectively eliminate those activities. Making it impossible for the events to be hosted any place that alcohol could be sold. Not just “is sold” but could be. Any place with a TABC license would have to have a signed agreement on file with the TABC to prohibit live ammunition from being sold at the event.
in addition, this proposal is meant to address the ‘entertainment center’ type ranges that are starting to appear. Venues that have more than just shooting lanes are starting to become popular — this would eliminate them. Several venues have been opened or proposed that would have a bar/alcohol for sale — after shooting of course. The proposal would prevent those establishments from functioning. Of course, the BARS that TABC regulates allow people to drink and drive on a regular basis — but Oh No, can’t shoot for an hour and then have a beer in the same place.

First of all, I love PMotH. I wholeheartedly agree that guns and alcohol don’t mix; nor should they ever. However, i disagree with your blanket statements.
“Gun shows are not a social event.” By definition, gun shows are social events: groups of people coming together for a common purpose. Just like trade shows or conventions, gun shows offer an opportunity for people to gather and discuss and expand their businesses and personal hobbies.
“Not family fun day either.” Why not? Besides the target range and actual hunting, gun shows were where I learned about firearms and firearm safety. It’s where I signed up for my hunter’s safety course and joined the NRA (before it was totally derailed).
“Guns shows: not entertainment.” I guess that depends on your definition of entertainment. I get that live guns are not like guns in a video game. Anyone who thinks they are has no business around them. But it was also at gun shows that I got to experience history in the form of Springfield carbines, Mausers, AK-47s, WWI and WWII equipment, and the like. I understand that not everyone finds enjoyment in that, but for me it was just as good as going to a museum where I could touch the exhibits.

Maybe I missed the point. I thought this would be about why alcohol shouldn’t be served at gun shows, but it appeared to me to be against guns shows in general with beer thrown in when convenient.
That said, I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

We don’t allow the mix of alcohol and automobiles. Why on earth should we allow the mix of alcohol and guns? Bars at gun shows is just the flip side of guns at bars. Both are nuts.

I am completely confused by this post and the comments after it. I suppose there’s no real need for me to tell you this, but I’m feeling chatty today. That being said, I think that I’ll go have a beer while not driving and not handling firearms. Which to me seem like two sensible ideas, but then I’m not a Texan so what do I know?

If the idea is to round them all up in one place…Oh, people would start yelling “conspiracy.” (So now new analysis of Neanderthal sites from Spain to Russia indicate that Neanderthals died out about 200,000 years ago? Are they sure? Thought I saw…oh, that’s probably just silly…)
