Dogged, by grillin’
Doesn’t matter how much it rained. Or if the sprinkler ran. Or if the water hose drenched the area.
It’s there.
That tiny little splash of meat juice that was left in the pan.
That miniscule drop that was hurled into the yard.
She nose.
Like iron filings jerked to a magnet.
Like a teen boy drawn to girlfriend’s house when parents are out of town.
Like a my-life-is-so-drab mom of small children drawn to Downton Abbey’s new season.
The dog can’t help herself.
Treasured grass carefully tended all summer mindlessly ripped out.
Determined paws of the large excavator variety moving at full dig.
Teeth measuring progress.
Prone positioning with paws on either side as soil is analyzed for consistency and texture.
She nose. That meat juice is there somewhere.
Close now. As careful as an archeologist unearthing artifacts.
Ah, joy and unexpected delight.
A plump earthworm – slightly seasoned!
So nice to be included.
Grill on. Grill on. And be generous with that marinade.
So appreciative,
Phil, the Philosopher Mouse of the Hedge.

It would be a drive to Rosa’s fish market from your place. (Although my sister-in-law as a child only ordered one thing while on vacation: shrimp…in Colorado, in Wyoming, in Utah…) Molly says she’ll be glad to gobble a shrimp in your honor…but she’s still convincing the chef. Hope the weekend is glorious there! Thanks for tossing a comment on the barbie.

The exquisite joys of summer. Barbecuing. No pans. Just the aroma- filled smoke drawing all to experience the pleasures of a perfect barbecue. Do have a splendid week-end. Virginia

The shrimp sound much tastier than the earthworm. 😉 We grilled steaks yesterday and tonight’s dinner is a yummy homemade chicken salad. Luckily, we can grill out pretty much year round!

Earthworms may be an acquired taste. It’s Gulf shrimp season, so we’re enjoying that. One nice thing about grilling, we can cook a bunch of stuff like beef/chicken fajitas and munch on that for a couple of days. Nice when it’s busy or it’s really hot. It is really nice to have that as an year round option. Thanks for cookin’ up a comment

I’d been hanging out by your barbie too, if I was in the vicinity. I think there must be bbqs in dog (& cat) heaven 😉

Molly has located a dip sight on the side of the grill. She’s perfectly willing to clean that area, but we try to keep the cover on once it’s cool. RC has mandated all get to sample the shrimp…just to make sure it’s up to standards…she keeps requesting additional samples. Hope your weekend was fun. Thanks for checking to see what’s cooking here.

Oh yes, dogs know the grill is where it’s at! Luckily we don’t have any grass, and our dogs seem to leave the grill alone…they are much more interested in catching the sneaky squirrels that mess with them!

Molly is the busiest dog we’ve ever had…able to search for grill drips and herd squirrels without pause. Hope ou had a great holiday. Thanks for chasing a comment this way

Molly sends an open invitation to Chuckles – plenty of lizards to share until dinner is grilling (and the people here can’t resist those hopeful doggie faces.) Tail wags to all!
