Are you a Marie or a Little?

Vintage Postcard St. Patrick's Day. 1916. Woman holding horseshoe. Toronto Public LIbrary (USPD., artist life/

Someone tell that woman to turn that horseshoe up ASAP before all her luck runs out! She must be a Marie.(USPD/

The Maries and the Littles are both dancing little jigs – only for different reasons..

It’s the battle of “Que Será Será” VS “The sky is falling. The sky is falling.”

With all the bars and restaurants in one county closed except for take-out Chicken Littles’ county, there’s a lot of weeping in local St. Patrick’s Day green beer.

“Sigh. OK. We shall play along. One must be benevolent and allow Dunderheads lesser creatures their frolics and customs.” (© image)

But wait! A short 30 min. drive and the “Let them eat cake” Maries of Galveston county welcomes all to eat drink and be merry on the beach, in the restaurants, and in all the entertainment venues.

Bring your money, but please check your coronavirus germs at the county line. (Despite county official announcing the would be “encouraging all to follow CDC guidelines” and recommendations for no groups larger than 10 people and social distancing.)

But hey, who knows.

Is it “Eat, drink, and be merry” or hunker down for the duration (after searching GOOGLE for natural medicinal products, lists of saints who were compassionate during the Black Death, or maybe dig out that rabbit’s foot…which, in retrospect, wasn’t lucky for the rabbit..)?

You have your lucky charms and we have ours…but isn’t this a little spooky as these pumpkins seems to have settled in for the duration? Maybe oranges are good for your health. In any case, no matter how much that little one tips his hat, not getting any green beer. Don’t want to encourage any bad habits or get a vulnerable one addicted to something that might have negative consequences or turn one into a mush head.(© image)

Me (a mutt heritage like most around here, but hey, everyone knows mutts get the best of each world and are stronger and healthier because of it…fingers crossed with that) and Molly Malamute (with her day appropriate name), are going with common sense, as well as avoiding people and soapy hands.

Outside the patio table is decorated with green dust thanks to oak trees, so it is a bit festive with the early spring flowers and the music from the neighbor’s grandkids splashing around in their pool.

Gotta dance with the tune you’re given

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to each and all.

There’s no mandate that you have to be gloomy. Dance with the one you’re with…I know that’s a bit difficult with cats, fish tanks, and hamsters, but try. Additional oxygen, exercise, and laughter are good for the immune system…as well as making you feel more positive. Oh, that’s “positive” as in attitude, not as in virus.(USPD/

Out of all of this, I learned how to spell the word “quarantine”, there is a silver lining.

Silver is the new gold! (well, it seems a rich vocabulary is worth its’ weight these days) Thanks for shining up a comment for this realm

You are our hero, RC. But we will not be following your lead in wearing a hat. Mom knows better than to try it. Purrs, Snoops and Kommando Kitty

RC Cat; ” We heard Hollywood might be making an updated Cat in the Hat movie…creating a photo portfolio might be the scratching post to stardom? Salute to your fine Realm. May orange guardians also keep you safe.

Thank you, RC. Best wishes on the audition

None of the cats here are hat wearers. Nope. Not at all. They are enjoying the extra attention from everyone being home 24/7. They are hoping for more meal times.

    • philosophermouseofthehedge / Mar 17 2020 5:52 pm

RC Cat would have preferred the pose of her right in front of her tall emerald green cat grass…but we convinced her Hollywood might be interested in an elegant cat in a hat for a remake or the old favorite….(but you are so right about their expectations of more meal times…”Well, you are standing there and need something to do….hint hint…”(insert encouraging paw ankle whap here)
Thanks for celebrating here with a comment and a smile

Big cat hanging around here. A bob-cat. But I don’t think I will try putting a green hat on him. Or a bell. Don’t need to. Must have been a hundred blue jays up in the trees today declaring his presence. -Curt

Good thing it’s not quite Blue Jay nesting time…or you might have 2 fierce territorial creatures after you. HAHA
      Take care and enjoy!

We buy off the blue jays with sunflower seeds. But god-forbid we let the bird feeder run out. 🙂

They know where you live….and when windows get left open (insert theme song from Jaws here)

I’m watching one now as it empties the bird feeder. They are greedy buggers and capable of stuffing 20 or so seeds into their craws at a time. Most of the smaller birds, such as the nuthatches and chickadees grab a seed and fly away!

There is no truth to the rumor we loaded her up with catnip! None, I say. Sometimes she’s just easily amused ( and sleepy in the sunny spot) Thanks for the happy comment – take care.

Paw waves in solidarity back… and thankfully we’re also having sunny days albeit slightly chilly [44F± – it would please Molly!], hoping it’ll warm up a bit! 🐾

Oscar and Lollipop want to know where RC got that awesome hat? No shenanigans or tomfoolery here on the ranch today. The continual rain put a damper on things.

    • philosophermouseofthehedge / Mar 18 2020 4:46 pm

Last St. Patrick’s Day Molly got to run with her friends at the ployspot…and at the end of the day, the dog wranglers attired each dog with a hat. Funny, Moly seemed to be so proud of it. This year, as RC is getting elderly, Molly lent the hat to HRH in an attempt to cheer her up as there was no sun in the sunny window. Very grey – no butterflies cavorting outside the window. Paw waves to your realm. Thanks for stopping by here. Stay safe

That hat is spiffy as can be! I hope your whole household enjoyed the sunshine today. Here’s a true story: when I left home this morning, the limbs of the cypress trees still were bare. When I came home tonight, they were wearing the green. That’s all it took — a few hours of sunlight. I’ll confess it cheered me right up, despite the blanket of natural green still laying about.

Dressed to impress! Little miracles – that’s all we need – and so many too distracted to notice.
Yes, the backyard lawn has never been so weed free…never one for just siting around and right now the roots are close to the surface – at least something positive is coming out of this. Thanks for tuning in (and the tolerance for the hat was short lived…should have posted the picture a few seconds later…if looks could kill….but ones with thumbs are needed so staff’s whims are tolerated on occasion )
