Not spinning up to speed

I don’t like being on a hamster wheel
Especially one that’s stuck in “still”
No forward. No back. Not one encouraging little squeak.
Might manage “neutral” – a temporary pause – as long as motion imminent.
Best hope is for an animated “on hold” as I just don’t do “still” well.
That childhood Swinging Statue game? Not my forte.
Even in extreme heat, I do stuff, but now, a sloth looks speedy by comparison
Appendages listless without direction of will.
It looks like we are going. Moving
Probably.
The destination sort of, generally, maybe, pretty much decided.
The timing completely TBA.
I think this house knew: landscape finally on autopilot, floors, faucets, lighting. Not our first redo rodeo
We like what we like and each house in sequence preened like a cat being groomed as we worked.
It was probably the new front door.
The house feels like the child who’s finally conquered riding a bike and is already down the block without a glance back
It’s pleased and can go it alone: Stay, rented or sold, it’s fine. Bye. It’s cat-like.
I’m not.
Once the brain lock and dock lines slipped, I want to go.
Grab some clothes, toss in the dog(s), pack the cat, and tour the houses online that stood out.
Get on with it.
Good house karma is real.
But without route finalized or timer set to “Move Time”, stuck.
Like a disorganized tropical storm.
Still, part of me has already left. Rats.

Philosopher Mouse of the Hedge 
I swore, loud and long, that the most recent move, three years ago was the LAST time, do you hear me? Absolutely the last freaking time I’m packing up and moving.
The hamster wheel is slowing to a stop in these parts and we’ll enjoy the stillness for a while longer – but we have our sights set on a southern location, closer to family and assisted living in another ten years or so.
Vis-a-vis “rats.” Hope your head remains above water.

A lovely sunny, windy (although steamy) day – yeah – will get the lawn mowed before rains. We moved here due to declining quality/increase noise and crime of last neighborhood. It’s an area we always liked and knew was hurricane quality construction/safe as far as flooding. (Growing up around an area does have benefits when house hunting) But it was never meant to be long term.The area is booming again, the big city inching far too close which destroys the small town feel, so it’s probably time. Everyone in the family seems to be shifting locations now, so we had to see where people settled. Good to move while there’s still time and energy to enjoy the new spot.
While every location has its’ downside, not having to watch the hurricane data each year would be relaxing. Thanks for packing up a comment to leave.

Oh, we’re old hands with hurricanes, with our current location we worry mostly about losing power. It’s too darn hot and we are so spoiled to AC now. This house wasn’t ever planned to be forever, but time has slipped by…probably avoidance of packing, moving, selling, buying…HaHa. But there comes a point you have to decide where you want to be – and get there in time to enjoy it. We’ll see…..no big rush.(except I really do better with set plans and schedules) It’ll be fun, right? Thanks for smiling along

Welp, aren’t you the one? A hurricane coming at you, maybe. I change of address, maybe. I feel your angst and share your concern. But I know you and you’ll do fine with whatever blows your way.

So far this storm has made other plans…so far HaHa. I never trust them. But it’s an early storm and we don’t worry about those too much – it’s late Aug and Sept that usually send the big ones this way. If we don’t get those outer rain bands, I’ll have to water the lawn – water here is expensive and may get more so – another factor to consider. I’d really prefer not have to worry about hurricane country and no AC/power for a week afterwards. The again, what fun is life without stress, right? HaHA
First the decision, then the loooong time before something actually happens. We’ll see. Thanks for the encouraging comment

Always something going on. Been trying to downsize for 5 years now. I’m so ready but husband isn’t. This week he complained about mowing our large lawn (first time ever!). Maybe soon. I’m hopeful. So done with extra bedrooms I don’t need. Cats will have one though. It’s in their contracts.

Warning: we downsized far too much – while this is a great house, it’s just a bit too downsized. (We also did not realize the contract stated cat room with sunny window cannot also be used as a guest room.. apparently cats retain the right to choose their room and staff must work around that choice…the office has a great sunny window year round, but no deal.) We do enjoy the smaller yard – easier to pretty up and maintain. Actually this was always intended to be a short term spot – good for now, but will be much too far from family in the future (of course that would limit the dog sitting….). Now that most everybody else has finally landed in where they intend to be, (which fortunately is where we had intended to eventually be) we can start looking around. Like Dad always said You wanna get someplace early enough to enjoy it before getting limited to the rocker on the back porch. HaHa. It’s gonna be fun…I keep telling myself that. Thanks for pulling out those contracts about cat rights.

Yep, better to move while you can have a say rather than wait and have someone say, “This is it. Sit.”
(Although this time we are definitely looking for move-in ready rather than oh, we can fix that….)
No rush or target date – just a firm decision. Fortunately we can take out time – unlike the last time when we had 2 wks to find a house – Yikes!
RC will welcome assistance…she’s been muttering that her “new” grass wilted and is trying to die…Staff did not select wisely…

Things move at their own pace, …besides it’s too hot to run around too fast right now. So far we’ve had one thunderstorm – yesterday. I wouldn’t mind a few showers – with this heat, the ground and plants dry out so quickly. Always fun to see where the tropical weather decides to go once it’s inland especially with the early disorganized summer storms – the spaghetti models were all over the place. Hope you’re not too steamy up there. Thanks for sweeping a comment this way

Well, well… So it’s time for a few verses of “Git along, little doggies” — although of course the staff will be allowed to ride shotgun. I understand that sense of “So, ok already — let’s get it on.” I’ll dither and dither, but once the decision’s made, I want to move, no matter whether it’s a physical move or some other project.
It is a touch warm, isn’t it? A crew showed up today to pressure wash my balcony, so all the plants have been inside for three days. Thanks to the process, I decided to get rid of some things that have been taking up space out there — not only some excess cacti, but a corner metal shelf that was disintegrating, and so on. I’ll say this — there’s nothing quite like being able to call on the maintenance staff to throw a reject on their golf cart and tote it to the dumpster. There are some advantages to this apartment living!

Ha- shelf toss – they’ll sign you up for the house re-do shows as you have demonstrated a necessary dramatic skill.
Yep, they say the Not Dog Days of Summer are here already…the dogs do not want to go out at all. And they are not impressed by the wading pool.

We’re getting ready to move at the beginning of next year, so I’m working on downsizing…or at least going through boxes that are still there from our last move. I actually want a house bigger than our rental here because I want to be able to have our girls (and a husband) visit as well as other friends and family. I wouldn’t be excited about hurricanes, either, and I hope you end up somewhere without that worry in the next place.

Oh, I feel better now – I have 2 boxes that haven;’t been touched since they came off the last truck. Actually we downsized too much – fell for that popular concept. UGH. As you say, you need space for visitors and residents. Hurricanes aren’t that big a thing as I grew up here and have been through several – but it’s the yearly hype you have to hear, and all the preparations. I’ve seen some elderly being bused out of danger during one evacuation – I do not want to far that or have to depend on others who are also up to their ears in alligators. Each place has some worry, but weary of the summer storm challenge – and this warm high humidity and extreme heat. So onward….and I should start thinning stuff, too. Best of luck with the impending storm. I can’t fathom living where that occurs, but I guess almost any location has “things”. I grew up with tornadoes in the midwest and have survived multiple earthquakes and fires here in Southern California, but hurricanes….??
I don’t like moving and have now done it twice in the last five years after living in our San Diego home for 18 years. My wife and I have being close to grandchildren a top priority. Our three girls are all married and in their early thirties. Our LA family has a 2.5 year old and 6 month old, thus our move to here. The other two and their husbands are both thinking of starting families after getting their careers going….they both by chance live up in the Seattle area, so I feel another move coming on in the next few years!

Things you grow up with just seem “normal” Hurricanes do give warning. (Barry is an early storm and while wary, we don’t worry really until late Aug/.Sept when historically the big ones arrive) Wary a bit with the local tornadoes, too ( but whew, the little ones were enough). Earthquakes and sink holes, I’m not sure I could cope with.
San Diego is so lovely – used to travel there for business.
This house was intended to be a 5-6 yr stop while kid landed in final location (and we warned, we do not go east of Mississippi any more).
You want to move while you can still get up and enjoy the new spot and adventures – we found with our parents as they aged that being no farther than 1 hour drive away is important. And little kids need to play with grandparents, too.
Luckily career opportunities, and other family members relocating/retiring seems to be taking everyone close to where we had chosen for the next house. Loose end to tie up , but ready to go. Thanks for packing up a comment to leave

Gee, what an exciting time for you… with so much to do and think about, and DO!! Now that everyone else has settled you can begin scouting around for the new digs. So many inhabitants to think about and of course guest quarters.
I hope hurricane season is mild or doesn’t even make an appearance this year.

We still have to wait for the dust to settle – and everyone sure they are where they are going to be, but we have started scouting via computer…and making a list of what we want – internet Is non-negotiable as working long distance can be done.
While it’s going to be awhile, having decision made, makes it better.(and looking forward to more dark sky, visiting local animals, natural landscape and less mowing!
We’ve had lovely clouds and winds today, but no rain. If it doesn’t happen to night, the sprinkler will have to run this week. Mild storms would be fine – your swale and critters could use the relief, as well.
