Important Scam Alert
This one always resurfaces around Easter.
You answer the phone only to hear a familiar sounding voice – like a parent or grandparent
Then your heart sinks as the message silkily flows, “How much will you pay not to have this show up at your front door?” Followed by the sounds of muffled laughter.
Noooooo!
No way you’re quick enough to block incoming images to a child’s texts, emails, Twitter, or Facebook accounts.
Who could not love the cuddly, fluffy, adorable bunny that quickly grows to giant size, eats electrical cords, quickly hops into becomes Mom’s chore basket, and lives forever and ever and ever…..
Meet their demands – whatever the cost.
Beware. There are variations.
Frequently with puppies or kittens.
Often around birthdays or start of summer.
Ah, revenge is sweet. (Insert muffled laughter here.)
So funny, bunny.

Hoppy Good Friday to you, too! Thanks for chasing the rabbit around here

I know that store, and I know that rabbit, and I know that temptation! I’m sure that’s where I go to buy peanuts in the shell for my bluejays and cardinals, and that’s where I don’t dare stop to make eye contact with the critters. No, I don’t need a rabbit. Do I want a rabbit? Who wouldn’t?!?

Bunnies litter box train. They can live indoors (Insert muffled laughter here). We haunt the same places – great place, great people – a little bit of country left. Hoppy Good Friday to you

A friend of mine (whose husband dislikes cats. Can you imagine?) has (or maybe had) a bunny for a pet for a long time. Litter trained and adorable. Now they have St. Bernards. Yikes!

When I was young, we raised rabbits for food. Quite tasty. We also raised chickens for the same reason. So much for the Easter duo. I don’t remember being the least bit conflicted. 🙂 I am pretty sure I remember looking out my bedroom window one morning and seeing Peter Rabbit and Henny Penny outside with picket signs. –Curt

Basic rule of ranches: you can name the bull, but never the cows or calves…
(Do you ever call out the window when passing the final chutes for cows “RUN”? The smart ones figure it out and do sometimes – you know how it is these days – get your picture on a viral video and you’ll get a reprieve and nice petting zoo home.) Wishing you smiling hop-alongs

I get it. Eating Bossy the Cow is much harder than eating the cow. Especially if you are a sensitive soul. My sister identified closely with the animals we raised and never partook when one was served up as dinner. She still doesn’t like meat. I’ve never yelled run but I’ve often talked with cattle. When I did my 10,000 mile solo bicycle trek around North America, it was sometimes the only communication I would have for hours. I’d moo and they would moo right back. No bull.

It is a wonder to see a bunny around here in the wild – development has run many off, but we know a few places you can spot them along hiking trails. They always make you smile. Hope your Easter was hoppy and bright

What about the Easter chicks and ducks? The ones abandoned after parents or grandma or someone buys the kids a couple and then realizes how much work they are? Bunnies are the same – they can become a nightmare to keep. It makes me sad really. I’ve ended up with baby ducks dumped off at a city pond before, rescued thankfully by some nice person. Cuteness is surely a lure, and it can be a great offer to learn to be a responsible pet owner. I cringe to think how many perish when cute grows into a lot of work and trouble.
Nose winks and hoppity hops for a happy Easter to you and your family. Looks like the weekend will be beautiful weather wise for a change!

The SPCA and animal advocates were out in force last week on news shows asking people to give stuffed rather than live – and saying please do not drop them at parks/lakes as these raised babies cannot take care for themselves. Cute critters – for about a week, then the shelters get overloaded.
Great comment. Appreciate you taking time to add that.
Hope your Easter was hoppy and bright. Gorgeous weather – finally!
