Like that movie.
Mysterious new neighbors
An attractive young couple.
Glamorous. Lithe.
Yoga style grace.
(Although we think she wears fur.)

Cordial: never to be confused with overly friendly.
Quick to leap from door to gone.
We could offer them which is the best grocery store, the best farmer’s markets, where to pick organic produce.
But they always seem to be on the run.
We happened upon the husband breaking off a crepe myrtle branch.
We’d happily advise concerning yard or landscaping. Which local plants do what.
But he scurried off without a word. Twig along with him.
Best to give them space.
These days everyone “wants to make it their own” and “put their own stamp on it”
Sooner or later, though, – in the middle of some DIY project as it is getting very late – there will be a plea like “Do you have any idea where to find a nut like this one? Apparently one got dropped and rolled off…”
We know a local source. Open late. Fielding a wide selection. Where you can get just one instead of a bulk 100.
Meanwhile we’ll hang back.

It’s nice to see young families nesting.
Before you know it, their little squirrel babes will be racing up and down the fence, performing tree to tree acrobatics, raiding the bird feeder, and flipping the dog off with their tails.
Hope they stay out of the street: the neighborhood human kids are pretty wild with their motorized mini jeeps.

That was from a very old children’s book I wasn’t familiar with (and may have to break out the olde English decoder for – written back when books for kids were an instructional source as well as entertainment or cultural “richness”.) The illustrator must have had kids as models. Thanks for branching out to leave a comment

In truth I’m amazed that I see so few squashed squirrel babies around here. So many frisky little dickens, of both the four-footed and two-footed varieties.

It’s baby season here too. Squirrels, rabbits, some birds, even foxes. So wonderful! Life renews.

This pair are so petite. They have chosen the tallest fan palm for their home. We kept finding these odd crepe myrtle twigs all around the palm base then realized they were cutting building materials and then having to carry it alllllll the way up…and dropping so many along the way. We started picking up branches and setting them up on the fence. But you know how it is – young couples want to do it all by themselves. Their “balcony” is quite elevated – those little babies better listen to mom!

Awwwwwww!!! Love this!! You were so nice put branches out for them. They’re so cute when they’re little, so amazingly energetic, so committed to their projects. And yes! They do watch out for each other – kids being kids. I feel sad this year bec I had to have the 2 large maples cut down a few weeks ago. No more squirrel condos unless they go to neighbors’ trees.

One of them is busy again this morning…probably making weather damage related repairs – we had such a storm yesterday, we worried all their efforts would get blown down, but didn’t see a stack under the tree. Bet the squirrels still come visit you this year…maybe to plant a couple of acorns for reforestation of your yard? They’re really good at that. Thanks for snipping off a comment to leave

I love that last image, too. Older children’s books really had some wonderful illustrations. I spent several hours this morning in the park. Lovely way to start the day and I came across a few shy residents–three does, deer, female deer. 🙂

Sunny and 90F for 2 days now. The NASA deer have drifted from the open fields back into their little forest and underbrush….probably humming the same tune. Thanks for booking a comment here

They’re cute little critters those squirrels; I’d never seen one in my life before I went to New York /Manhattan in 2005, the last place in the world I’d have thought you’d find one, and there they were.gorgeous love ’em
