Early 1900 society seems obsessed with frogs.
If certain eras develop affection towards a particular creature – Like trendy social mascots – Selecting spirit animals so to speak as some shortly become spirits…
What critter would represent 2018?

Wild horses can drag you away! Hang on!
Right now it looks like rather than the noble horse, a stubborn mule may be the symbol of this year…or honey badger, perhaps. Sometimes better to be of the world but not in it.

I wasn’t going to share this with you, but if we’re going to nominate spirit animals for 2019, I might go with the Trash Panda. Lord knows there’s a lot of trash that needs taking out, and the critters are good for a fight. Just don’t let Bob watch it!

Yep, could be a real snake in the grass year (snakes usually travel in pairs: double trouble). So thinking rattlers or weasels or ostriches? HAHA We’ll have to wait and see.

Well, rattlers do make a lot of noise, but they don’t need approval before they strike, and they don’t usually change their minds every couple of hours (or at least I don’t think they do…do they even have minds?)

Rattlers tend to sit back and evaluate, know their own strike potential, and give a loud warning signal before they’ve had enough and are going to attack with force and good aim. Scary creatures.
They just want to be left alone to live and let live – a little like many people in that respect.
Maybe rattlers have the potential to be chosen animal mascot for the year.

Hmmm. Perhaps leave out the flying pig Christmas ornament until year’s trendy animal is set…
Actually when I first noticed all the frogs in card, art, advertising, literature of that era, I wondered if the Chinese Zodiac played some role. There was a huge influence and decorative/fashion trend as people were fascinated by the exotic Orient…but then again, Europe has some history with frogs, too (In Medieval times land frogs represented the “saved” and righteous while water frogs were the sinners – frog’s importance/symbolism goes way past Roman, Greek, Egyptian even Mesopotania. There’s a great Taoist classic tale about life with talk between a frog and a large sea turtle (with many variations in China) “”Sitting at the bottom of wells, frogs think that the sky is as wide as a lid”)
It’s a wonder I get anything written at all with so many interesting trails to hop down.
But I agree. Society might actually adopt the flying pig as society’s trendy animal mascot for this year…the animal certainly portrays how many are looking at how things need to balance and settle down?

I vote Trash Panda. We’ve had “signs” of them here already ringing in the new year. They’re coming in droves to eat the deer feed and last night they managed to get in the chicken barn and took out about seven hens.
