Queasy rider

More rare than a unicorn at Christmas.

Gravely said, a poor soul stuck for an eternity in a monster traffic jam.

No, no way he’s a hitch hiker. Why bother to leap on board when walking is probably faster?

Best to just  hang in there during commutes. Don’t give up the ghost.

Some have the drive to get in the spirit of things early.

Home Depot is ready to oblige that obsession.

Nothing says Merry Christmas like an LED lit unicorn with pink mane and tail!

We are not sure if that’s a wand or a sword the creature is stabbing the penguin with.

Jealousy? Penguins at least have something to do with ice and snow, but unicorns? Always missing the boat. Bound to be hoofed rage

There’s real controversy raging over decision to off a new Formula 1 race series just for women.

Attempting to get more women involved in Motorsports, in 2019 organizers plan to select 18-20 women drivers who will be trained and tutored by experts, provided sponsors and financial backing in order to gain enough experience to drive with the big boys eventually. All free. Their race series, which does feature big winnings, will consist of six 30 minute races.

While no one wants unqualified drivers in Formula race cars, is segregating drivers by sex OK? In this day and age we have high school girls quarterbacking in football games and of course women field goal specialists, so it seems a little backwards. (Please don’t make all their cars pink Such a stereotype.)

Some of the women already driving say isolating women is patronizing. Some wonder why the women only will race 30 minutes – why not the same as the men? Others say providing all the training, cars, and sponsorship free to only women is discrimination against young male drivers who also have dreams. In any case, the organizers are probably looking to increase profits.

Right now women drivers are more rare than unicorns – got to get up to speed somehow.

At Home Depot we noticed one set of Grandparents clearly thinking ahead. They were rapidly texting their daughter to see if they should grab a unicorn for granddaughter’s April birthday party.

Multipurpose yard display. There you go.

You could leave it up all year long. What could the HOA say? It’s got pink hair!

Nothing is stopping these three local girls from rolling with the big boys.

The Spring Skateboard park in Houston is one of the biggest in the world and while these three might have been the first girls to show up ready to shred, they aren’t the only ones now – or the youngest.

And they weren’t intimidated by all the skilled guys. Listen to how they roll: “Secretly Awesome: girls at the Largest Skate Park in America“.

Yeah, one of them has pink hair. It’s perfect.

Go, kids, go. Be the driver.

Motorcycle Santa and giant bear are replacing Rudolf. Now they may be “winter whimsy”, but that grimacing snowman maybe should move to the Halloween display…oh, wait, it’s gone already. Scary.(© Image)

I’ve seen that skeleton. In fact, I mentioned him (her?) to a couple of other bloggers, one of whom happens to have named hers and takes it around with her to places like Rotary luncheons. Now I can link them to you page and let them see the real thing!

What’s ever funnier is that I recognize the intersection. Do you suppose they’ll give him a sweater when the front rolls in?

    • philosophermouseofthehedge / Oct 15 2018 7:48 am

I kept seeing that car, and finally got stuck in traffic close enough to get a picture. We did wonder if they would I’ve him/her a jacket or rain coat for this week. (waiting…waiting…what? tornado warning box in Brazoria?)
There’s another vehicle with skeleton arms/legs sticking out of the front grill. (The Art Car community has encouraged people to express themselves?…please let it not be now that the stores have sold all the yard decorations, we’re going to be expected to decorate our cars for holidays, too..unicorns..the all holiday decor…)
Hang on – north winds blow in the oddest things. Thanks for rattling those bones!

you are right the snowman is scary.. he could be on the passenger seat of the mama, then his face would make sense LOL

    • philosophermouseofthehedge / Oct 15 2018 7:28 am

That pudgy snowman is designed to quiver and shake like an earthquake, too. Snow guy had to have been put in the wrong holiday section. Thanks for parking a comment here

Hahaha! I’ve got to wire a skeleton on my car. I can pass on the unicorn though. 🙂

    • philosophermouseofthehedge / Oct 15 2018 7:57 am

Don’t toss out remnants of Halloween past! We’ve seen a skeleton leg or arm or two sticking out of front grills. Last year someone had those striped stockings with black curled shoes ( like in the wicked witch of the Wizard of Oz) tacked out of their hood. I have no doubt you’ll scrounge up the perfect Halloween hood ornament (Post pix!)
Thanks for digging up a ghoulish comment

My sis-in-law (age 88) is a huge unicorn fan. Maybe for Christmas…..

    • philosophermouseofthehedge / Oct 15 2018 7:53 am

Exactly. The perfect gift for so many just arrived (That little granddaughter will be thrilled…we saw them hauling out a box). The smiles will be priceless.

Love the skeleton on the back of the SUV. Much more creative than the Christmas unicorn. I wonder if Formula 1 has noticed that women can race in NASCAR and Indy cars.

HA! The fall winds have blown you back to WP. (Will sail over shortly to see wha’t hit the beaches there)
You might as well have fun with traffic – playing in it is discouraged so much, but vehicle dress up seems to be appearing more (Hallmark is bound to be taking note…)
While Sr. Staff feels a training program is needed as “you don’t want to have someone out there who doesn’t have the skills”, it should be noted there are women drivers in motorsports. A publicity stunt (more money/free advertising) or simply a way to avoid criticism/ appear supportive…something of an insult to suggest that the little ladies need special accommodations and protection more than young male drivers. More likely marketing and all about the money.
Thanks for tinkering around with a driven comment

Yes, the return winds blew me this way. 🙂 Meanwhile, cheers to the season of Halloween creativity.

Ah and those winds are arriving now as the front inches towards the coast. 91F yesterday, 81F at 7 am this morning, but a 25 degree drop in the next couple of hours..the dog is ecstatic…as much as possible considering the rain.

There are some amazing – and nutty – creations for sale at Home Depot at Halloween and Christmas.
I wish I had the desire to set some of those inflatables up on my front lawn and drive the dog nuts…

Great work as always, old friend.

When they go on sale, grab the grimacing snowman – it shakes and jumps – just what a nervous dog needs! Thanks for piling up a comment

I’ve always been partial to the witch wrapped around a power pole, like she hit it head on. Sitting outside on a balmy 75 degree day surrounded by fall colors. Doesn’t get much better. Good luck on your front. I was in Clearwater/Tampa last week, before the hurricane. My experience: heat and humidity. Welcome to the Gulf Coast. –Curt

    • philosophermouseofthehedge / Oct 16 2018 5:19 pm

The local witch missed the power pole, but ran into a tree here. High today is 61F, which is fine if it wasn’t drizzling all day. May get one strong enough to clear things out on the weekend – nothing like a sunny day without the swelter. (We were in Clearwater/Tampa as our sailboat was built – lovely area back then.Every place seems to have some sort of downside – pick your tolerance HAHA)
Thanks for wafting a comment this way

I thought Safety Harbor was a lovely little town. Country is a little too flat for me, however. 🙂 But you are right about the downside. Here it has become smoke in the summer… not to mention the very real threat of fire, Phil. Trees work as well. Those witches could definitely use an improvement in their GPS. –Curt

That skeleton on the Jeep [?] brings me joy. I didn’t know that Formula 1 was trying to get more women involved. To me it seems like the stupidest ‘sport’ ever, so maybe the lack of women involved is really an example of good sense. 🙄

    • philosophermouseofthehedge / Oct 17 2018 7:11 am

Ditto on the easy rider grins. I’ve been trying to get a picture for some time.
As far as the drivers, why can’t people leave things alone. If someone wants to drive, there’s a way already. Stupid…or greedy
Good sense doesn’t;t seem to be driving much these days.
Thanks for cruising by to comment
