RC notices children fleeing Chick-among-us

We are not amused! Annoyance is causing Us excessive shedding due to stress.

Enough chatter! Our paw has been waving for your undivided attention. We are experiencing elbow fatigue.

Must We fling catnip into the crowd? Perhaps a large hairball? No? Quiet, then.

You there. Put down that hair tumbleweed. We shall not be amused if unapproved Our Royal Fluff appears on Ebay. Leave it!

Why must We tolerate such?  (1921.Photoplay/

As you know, We, as RC Cat of the Realm, monitor issues in the Outer Realm. Many of you are whispering rumors of what the Molly has observed.

The refugees.

Over the past few months the media has been ignoring cautiously reporting A vast invasion sad migration of desperate young people.

Who could not be moved by their stories?

Who could not understand their wishes to flee such a threat?

Chick-among-us is no laughing matter.

What? Of course that is the correct translation. Chikungunya. Fool, what else could it be?

Don’t make eye contact. Maybe it will spare us! (1900 Andersen/Tegner/US

Being trounced by an angry Giant Chicken would cause intense pain.

Yes, yes, Causing such joint pain that walking would be difficult.

Can you imagine seeing that hopping towards you? It would cause feverish thoughts.

No wonder their hospitals are overwhelmed and those who are able to out run them seek refuge from the misery.

For those who are scratching their heads wondering – after seeing mostly adolescents and young adult immigrants – where are all the small children that were supposedly in jeopardy – We are pleased to reassure all.

Many of small ones have safely arrived locally and are being sheltered in neighborhood Realms.

Look! So eager to work they bring their own equipment!

Such enthusiastic smiles – although some charity dental work may be in order.

Perky and looking to please.

Why are they forced to huddle in the bushes?

Purrhaps that realm’s RC Cat, the aging Harley, is insisting on a bit of quarantine allowing time to evaluate?

Or purrhaps the grateful children have volunteered to stay out and give RC Harley a boost up as needed. He has so let himself go so much that he can no longer make it up over the fence to chat with Us. Such a shame.

Halloween yard decoration. Scarecrow

Such a brave lad despite his rags and dental issues.

We shall mention to RC Harley that appropriate clothing must be furnished to the children.

Patches only look good on calicoes.

And We do mean appropriate.

Outgrown martial art uniforms don’t really seem quite right. (But the grateful child still smiles!)

Halloween yard decorations. Mummy, ghost and pumkin

We come in piece bringing gifts, oh Great RC Cats of the Realms

The refugees seem to have attempted to bring tribute – not realizing We are not vegetarians.

One must be gracious.

The poor tiny child tasked with carrying their offering is pale from effort.

We see his beseeching expression as he hopes it has not been in vain.

RC Harley has wisely accepting their tribute.

Designating the orange veggie as part of an obstacle training course for his young RC trainee.

Training a young potential RC allows lesser duties to be delegated as One ages and if something odd is going on, there is an official an envoy to investigate without getting One’s own paws dirty if action is needed.

Halloween pumpkin with cat and mouse

A pounce and attack drill, obviously

It is Our understanding that authorities are preparing to release some genetically modified mosquitoes in Panama City to help fight the spread of Chick-among-us.

They must be some aggressive mosquitoes of unusual size.

Purrhaps relatives of the giant ones found in Alaska.

In the past We have requested a hunting tour of Alaskan Realms

But Staff says they do not approve of trophy hunting.

(Guess the fools haven’t seen the back corner under the couch.)

So there you have it. There is no need for concern or silly gossip about threats.

You have Our permission to withdraw.

(And drop that Royal Fluff. No souvenirs granted!)

Our paw has waved.

And don’t forget to leave the tribute of an open can of food in the doorway.

I am RC Cat and I approve this message.

It is an honor RC Cat of the Realm to be the recipient of your world-wide decree of Chick-Among-us. If the situation becomes such that Your Highness is concerned, you are welcome to come and visit your obedient servants in the colder climes of Canada. Here in the capital of the country (Ottawa) you could influence the workings of the country by advising our Federal Government. they can use all the RC help they can get. The good news and the drawback are the same : it is too cold for Chick-among-us, they pack up as soon as they arrive, and head back south. Of course that means it is cold for your Highness – RC Cat as well. It has been said (tongue-in-cheek) that we have 10 months of winter and 2 months of hard sledding.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Chick-among-us RC Cat of the realm. We, your Canadian subjects of the Realm, bow to your Royal decree and want you to know that you are always welcome here.

RC Cat: Oh, We are gleeful at your kind offer of a residence in a more comfortable climate. Our coat fits quite nicely and shows so well against glistening winter snow. And We gladly offer the Molly as a sled dog. Staff is always saying she lunges and pulls so much. What a delightful time awaits. No longer being forced to drape One’s self under the fans in an attempt to stay cool.
We do not know any otters, but are looking forward to meeting your Ottawans.
Most kind offer. A cheery paw wave until We greet in purrson.

I bought both a RC hairball and tumblefluff on Ebay! The bidding was competitive. RC needs to shed more and maybe hack one up for the cause.

    • philosophermouseofthehedge / Sep 29 2014 10:22 pm

RC Cat: It is so difficult to get Ebay to remove unauthorized objects! But from time to time, We are persuaded to donate to a worthy cause such as Save the Tigers or animal rescue group such as the Houston SPCA which assumed responsibility for 140 animals in Sept – 70 of which were Irish Wolf Hounds belonging to an elderly cancer patient who dearly loved them but was unable to care for them any longer. We felt We must as 3 cats were involved…and couple of chickens – but We area assured they were healthy chickens – small ones. We are so please you now cherish souvenirs of Our efforts. A soft cheek pat graciously awarded.

Perhaps an RC Cat call to the CDC is in order? And by the way, I see from that last photo that Big Brother of the Internet is of the feline persuasion. I should have known.

    • philosophermouseofthehedge / Sep 29 2014 10:09 pm

RC Cat: “Oh, speak up. The windows are closed to limit mosquito access. Coming in? Close the door quickly. Ah, much better. You may sit on that stool…the low one.
The CDC updates Chikungunya info on Wed.mornings. There have been several cases here and now people are arguing about environmental concerns vs human sicknesses. This area now has West Nile, St Louis encephalomyelitis, the equine versions, chikungunya, and Dengue is expected. Obviously cold weather will be welcomed by staff who currently, out of stubbornness, refuses to wear the heavy protective fur coats We located for them.
Sly feline supervision is vastly superior, as they do not get distracted by cute bunnies, kitties, or door bell rings like dogs do. But a little secret, yes? Agree or suffer much spam – a little joke, yes? Ah, We understand one another. A soft cheek pat for you astuteness.”

My brain may return to normal, given quick departure and a lot of rest … or is normal what it has now become after diligently perusing this? Eek.

    • philosophermouseofthehedge / Oct 3 2014 8:56 pm

RC Cat: We are pleased to have kickstarted a brain requiring a tiny jarring in order to run smoothly. We do advise staying in top running condition in case the Chick-among-us hops your way. Yes, yes. We are too thoughtful. We shall allow you to leave in order to rest up and get into prime running shape. A kindly paw wave for your lovely visit

There’s much I don’t understand here, but then — I got to the word “mosquito” and couldn’t unfocus. Whatever the clouds of little beasties are carrying, I don’t know, but I’ve never seen such batches of mosquitos as greeted me at work today. Honestly — it was just terrible. And they’re tiny, tiny little things. They don’t buzz, so you don’t know they’re there until it’s too late.

May you and your household escape the curse!

    • philosophermouseofthehedge / Sep 30 2014 1:22 pm

RC Cat:”Oh, dear – We fear you have chicken fever from the dock mosquitoes who must have migrated from the Caribbean in order to view the Harvest Moon Regatta. And Sir Harley had hoped to keep the children safe. He is so thoughtful to offer shelter to immigrants (and purrhaps gain a staff-in-training…if he ever feel comfortable enough to let them inside…)
Staff complains endlessly about swarms of determined buzzing ones in the outer realm. We simply say to them, better to remain at your posts – delight Our additional whims that keep you busy – We are only trying to keep you healthy! So thoughtful, We are.
Wishing a stiff breeze to blow harmful biters from you…little smashed bugs are so difficult to pull out of varnish. A brave paw wave in encouragement.”

  6. EllaDee / Sep 30 2014 4:31 am

We’re heading towards summer and not looking forward to the buzzing biting season bringing more bugs… even in winter we’ve been attacked by hardy specimens… so satisying to splatter them. I would suggest it’s the authorities’ persistent endeavours in messing with things that causes the imbalances to occur, which they then come up with new treatments for… and so on. RC, as a higher being you understand how foolish this is.

    • philosophermouseofthehedge / Sep 30 2014 1:01 pm

RC Cat: While on occasion We have delighted in leaping wildly in aerobic chase of the tiny winged ones, it becomes tiresome after a bit – and the little flyers won’t buzz off on command. We have tried requesting staff to invite a bird or two in as sentries and buzz control, but foolish staff said that will only create more problems. Birds would create more entertainment – that’s what We see. A cherry paw wave for your efforts there. You have permission print out the paw wave and wave it around to assist in hurrying off the annoying bugs. Yes, We are thoughtful.”

I’m looking for the wrong things on Ebay….

    • philosophermouseofthehedge / Sep 30 2014 12:55 pm

RC Cat: “There are always the one who somehow know where to invest. Ebay should take more steps to avoid encouraging the black market of stolen items. We must have Our people call their people. A gentle nod in your direction for your efforts”
