Who do Facebook. Vous deux.

Facebook. Viewed as a blessing and a curse. Such uncertain territory that small children are banned and dog participation is forbidden.(You know how dogs sniff odd things out.)

Despite all that, the time has come for a leap of faith.

The fickle finger of Fate does beckon.

No, really, you hold Fate in your finger. So wiggle yours and get ready.

A fellow blogger, Roxie Hanna, took a deep breath recently and launched a publishing company Sunscribe.

If you don’t know Roxie’s blog, you should.

It’s a collection of treasures: writing advice, series like “Ghostwriting 101” and “Effective Editing”, trends in the book industry, publishing info, contests, writing opportunities, and hilarious cartoons.

And now with Sunscribe Publishers, she looks for authors, illustrators, and freelance editors. So there’s potential for you serious writers and artists there. This is not a vanity press. Read about their vision of collaborative partnering with writers.

Publishing is a tough business – especially for a brand new company.

So here’s the deal. Roxie could use a bit of help. From her blog:

“….we at Sunscribe are excited to announce a way for you to participate in a unique prospect as we grow: help us secure a $150,000 grant from Chase.
Now before you reach for your wallet to verify we haven’t lifted it, let me give you the quick and dirty. Just a VOTE. That’s all we need.
We applied for this grant because we see this opportunity to secure funding without debt for our traditional publishing model.

….Go ahead, Let us know you support us as we partner with writers.”

Here’s the link. Click and vote for Sunscribe.

You can only vote once, but no one’s stopping you from suggesting others click over and vote, too.

It’s a Facebook thing, but if you’re not a “member”, there’s nothing stopping you from contacting those you know who are Facebook users and giving them a nudge.

Oh, you’re not a writer or an artist – just a reader?

Is it just me or does it seem only well-known authors, politicians and their relatives, celebrities, even famous people’s pets have an easier time getting published than anyone else?

Make sure there’s plenty of writing out there worth reading: Support small independent publishers.

The fate of words really is in your hand.

I love her blog and this is a worthy vote!

    • philosophermouseofthehedge / Sep 19 2014 1:18 pm

Helping independent publishers is in everyone’s best interest. And for someone trying to start a business that benefits creative people without going into debt – sounds admirable to me. Thanks for clicking along

    • Roxie / Sep 19 2014 1:38 pm

Many thanks Kate for your readership and continued support!

  2. marthaschaefer / Sep 19 2014 1:18 pm

Thanks for introducing this Phil. I will leap on over and vote!

    • Roxie / Sep 19 2014 1:42 pm

Glad to meet you here, Martha! Awesome, thank you for your vote!

  3. Vanessa-Jane Chapman / Sep 19 2014 1:22 pm

    Going to vote now!

    • Roxie / Sep 19 2014 1:36 pm

Thank you, Vanessa-Jane! Stay in touch!

  4. Roxie / Sep 19 2014 1:28 pm

I am speechless Phil! Classic you, splendidly done! Really appreciate your support and the support of your readers. Yep still speechless!

    • philosophermouseofthehedge / Sep 19 2014 4:22 pm

I was a small business owner – with Hallmark as my major competition – so I have an idea of what you are facing. Your blog has helped many bloggers. Happy to be able to return the favor.
Word Press Bloggers: all for one and one for all. This is an amazing community. Thanks for being willing to jump off that cliff

      • Roxie / Sep 19 2014 4:34 pm

I had no idea! Wow! Yes it is a cliff. You bet we are all in this together and WordPress is the great equalizing tool!

  5. Carrie Rubin / Sep 19 2014 1:28 pm

Good information. Thanks. And yes, it does seem celebrities get published awfully easy, including their fiction. I’m not jealous. Not jealous at all…

    • Roxie / Sep 19 2014 1:44 pm

Let’s change that Carrie! We partner with writers…are you looking for a publisher?

      • Carrie Rubin / Sep 19 2014 2:05 pm

I was being a bit cheeky. I do have a publisher for my first book, but it’s not one of the Big Five like the celebrities get. 🙂

        • Roxie / Sep 19 2014 2:32 pm

My very embarrassing bad! Congrats and may you keep writing and selling. Cheers!

        • Carrie Rubin / Sep 19 2014 2:52 pm

Thank you! I’m in the phase of trying to get more product out now. Writing, writing, writing. 🙂

And RC Cat is always miffed. If staff would only work/try a little harder and become famous, then she would easily find a publisher for her memoirs and cat tales….Obviously she could approach publishers herself but One just doesn’t do that in her position…..
(And you are not being distracted at all from real writing….giggles – always glad when you sneak over to chat)

Not heard from Roxie since I mailed her, wasn’t sure if it as still going. Pippa and I chucked FB years ago but I could sneak under the radar as Partner (he never looks either).

    • Roxie / Sep 19 2014 1:33 pm

Two steps forward one back, our new dance. We will be back in touch! Accounts, insurance, & attorneys playing nice together now which frees me to concentrate on freelancers. I do appreciate your continued interest!

      • roughseasinthemed / Sep 19 2014 1:43 pm

Hey Roxie! I’m doing one step forward and two backwards due to broken ankle. But still, I can edit books from sofa so life could be worse.

Pleased to hear you are getting somewhere. These things take time. I’ll mosey over to cast my partners vote on terrible FB!

        • Roxie / Sep 19 2014 1:47 pm

Oh no! Irony, that’s life. We have delayed opening for subs other than our test last year for our debuts. Each of those had an editor assigned, but when we open for subs, we’ll need YOU! I will get back in touch.

        • roughseasinthemed / Sep 19 2014 1:54 pm

That’s fine. All I need is an indication of required timescale and style guidelines eg strict Chicago or whatever. For discussion, whenever, and good luck with the grant app 🙂 .

        • Roxie / Sep 19 2014 2:45 pm

Will do! Thanks for your interest and support in Sunscribe! Take care of your ankle!

  7. Aquileana / Sep 19 2014 2:35 pm

The blog is great !!!… And I subscribed to it… I wonder why Facebook doesn’t allow dogs to participate… If they accept all those numerous personal states (related with sexual orientation and their consequent practices) bla, well they should be coherent and transfer that mental openness at least to other beings, including Man’s best buddies…:P
Thank you very much for sharing. best wishes!!!, Aquileana 😀

Maybe it’s because dogs shed and the fluff clutters thing up? Or complete honest is just too hard to face? Doggone if I know, but they kicked a bunch of Dog authors off not long ago.
Glad you discovered Roxie’s place – always cool stuff there. Thanks for clicking along

Aquileana, super to know you! Thank you for your vote and support. Perhaps as a united front we can represent dogs on FB as hearitly as cats are, lol!

Thanks for introducing me to Sunscribe. I’ll be checking out her work. The link for voting is down at the moment, but I’ll keep it open and continue reloading until I can cast a ballot there.

    • Roxie / Sep 19 2014 5:46 pm

I appreciate that, Rob! I just tried and the link worked but it could be hit or miss depending on the weather. Great to meet you here and I hope you stop by Sunscribe for a chat!

  10. EllaDee / Sep 19 2014 8:25 pm

Happy to support Indie writers, publishers etc.
And it was easy… and not too privacy invasive to vote…

    • Roxie / Sep 19 2014 8:28 pm

Yay! Glad to hear it went smoothly, EllaDee! Huge thanks for your support and enthusiasm!

  11. Ally Bean / Sep 20 2014 10:38 am

Interesting. I’m always curious about how normal people get a book published. Never thought that it was possible, to be honest. Will hope over to Sunscribe and see what’s up. Thanks for the link.

    • Roxie / Sep 20 2014 1:09 pm

Publishing now is a curious thing, for sure Ally. Thank you for checking us out, and for your support!

I voted and shared; one of my friends just published – not sure of her publisher – and know publishers and authors can use all the help they can get. Thanks for sharing!

    • Roxie / Sep 21 2014 1:58 pm

Yay! Congrats to your friend! You are absolutely right, support, support, support is key! Thanks so much Jay, for yours!!
