Ready to rumble. Contender arrives

She’s smiling. So are the rest of us.

Enthusiasm runs high in anticipation.

The proud long-limbed beauties are signaling Round One .

Flipping wild blown locks like combat swords as they pose and preen (They know the audience loves it.)

Giving notice: “Git reeeeady to rrrrrumble!”

Please. A knock out.(US PD: by US Marine Corps.Lopez/Commons.wikimedia.org)

A boxing match of Epic Proportions. (That’s what they always say.)

The energetic, but seasonally young, upstart blowing in trying to provoke something. (Everyone knows time is on his side.)

The blustering Local Champ has grown heavier but is still able to pull a sea of warm support from his coterie established over the sultry summer. (A blowhard some dare to say.)

In any case it will be a punching match with blows, groans, and a few thunderous crashes.

Nothing beats the rattling of palm trees announcing the arrival of a chilled north wind and the inevitable confrontation by the warm Gulf air. A manic symphony of clicking and clacking as the palms slash the sky.

This morning won’t be the so-bright-it-must-be-Oz kind that quickly escorts out clouds and rain.

Not this early in the season.

The days preceding with extreme heat and humidity (Is that a threat to the locals by the hot air that’s been holding court all summer? Don’t change allegiance – or else? Hurricane season isn’t quite over.)

Then storms until one claims the title. Bout over.

But for now, it’s whiplash weather.

Most people just stay inside while the two sort the weather out.

(That’s the real reason broadcast football games were invented?)

You can’t see it here, but these clouds were actually swirling overhead trying to form a tornado funnel cloud Friday. Don’t worry, the green haze was missing. ©

There’s always those who can’t wait for the winner to claim the match.

Some are willing to take in the rehearsals. The connoisseurs of works-in-progress.

Some have demanding dogs (and can no longer bear the smell of Resolve in the morning)

And some are just darn tired of being held hostage indoors. (Please, box up the summer.)

Falling for the preview,

Phil, the Philosopher Mouse of the Hedge.

Overnight it was in the 40s. Fall is here in the northeast but we’re hoping summer stops by for a nice tea.

Afternoon tea sounds perfect – Summer tends to make afternoon appearances around here this time of year. Genteel, that’s her mood. Thanks for breezing in

Ahhh, the clash of the Titans, truly a nerve racking fight I should imagine. Weapons and blasts can so easily escape the ring and stike down bystanders. If the Titans’ battle makes its way into the audience many could be hurt. Thank ully their fight only goes a fixed number of rounds, although i undersatnd that the number of fights is different each year.

Stay safe and healthy Phil – i’m sure that RC, Molly and the German would much rather watch from inside. They must get nervous when the Titans rumble. Good planning, Good luck and Pawwaves.

What’s really annoying is the weather radio going off with shrill alerts. RC retreats to her upper level closet loft, but Molly just yawns and says “Boring – why is the TV off? Got any food?” We get some good storms here – wish we had a big upstairs porch or balcony overlooking the water to watch them roll across. Next couple of days we’ll be getting drift from the Baja CA hurricane. Really do live in an ocean of air. Thanks for waving a comment over

We had some tornado warnings here last week. Thank goodness for phone text alerts or I wouldn’t have known. Was busy writing away, oblivious as always.

One of NOA’s big stations is not far from here. Apparently Friday someone about half a mile away saw a “funnel” and sent the photo to TV station- actually a cloud dipping down like we get a lot here – they usually are nothing and don’t reach the ground. Suddenly the city started up their alert phone/text system – which said the weather station was not issuing a warning. We went “what? It’s not green. No train sound.” Went outside to see. It was weird as those clouds swirling in a circular pattern as if it was trying. Without tall buildings we do see some great sky views. The day didn’t turn out as turbulent as they expected – clouds keep the temps down while we creep into fall. Hope there’s a nice view outside your window ( it is not distracting!) Thanks for shooing a comment this way

This weekend was magical here with record lows and overcast skies, and then midday on Sunday the heat worked its way back in letting me know it wasn’t quite ready to throw in the towel.

Yep, it’s whiplash weather. Below 90 for a few days, but back to baking today. Not quite warm sockies weather yet. The plants are really starting to grow again…hope they don’t regret all that new tender growth. (I can just wrap up so much!) Thanks for breezing over with a comment

Still born gold summer here. Nothing new. Sun sun sun and warm. Curtains pulled keep out the sun. Dogs chilling on nice tiled floors. A westerly the other day brought warmer weather. Bigger yawn. Should be changing around now, but no. I find the same weather every day sooooo boring. Come on autumn, where are you?

People are probably bored with weather posts – but tired of treading in the sun, sun, sun, hot, steamy, humid baking. Steals all the energy and motivation. Not sure I could manage Caribbean Island’s endless days of sun sun sun. (broken by hurricanes periodically) But better than Alaska’s looooong dark days.
I like the first line of your comment. That’s it. 90 today – less humid this morning, so trimmed some hedges and wove stray Bougainvillea branches back into the trellis…now dealing with all those thorn stabs. The hibiscus bushes froze to ground last winter, so few blooms as they spent most of the time growing new branches. For some reason, a red hibiscus flower behind Snowy’s ear just sounds appropriate for a portrait. Thanks for strutting over with a comment

Pred text is doing my head in. Born gold, not boring old? Dear me.

Maybe born gold sounds better, yes I could like that. 😀

Do not tell me about bougainvillea, great to look at, crap to work with. And so big when it grows out of control. Hibiscus are cool, yes?

One reason I’ll accept very cold winters it that is thrashes back vegetation I can’t chop either out of laziness or “but it has flowers – can’t cut it when there’s flowers and the humming birds/dragonflies/bees…” There’s a bush trying that act on me now.
With mild weather returning stuff is growing again – new growth is the first to freeze back. But maybe the hibiscus is short enough it will manage this winter among the others – it was the sheltering plant last winter being so huge. The bougainvillea doesn’t seem to be stopped by anything. Always an adventure.

After the long, hot period of 100 degree temps we had, I was thrilled to get some cooler air from the north over the weekend. It’s time for summer to leave. I enjoyed your play on word and images. The Blustering Local Champ sure did grow heavy towards what I hope was the end. He might be the Come Back Kid, though, so I’m not counting him out yet.

It looks like a re-match is being lined up. The last few days were so nice. We’d like to go to the beach and see how the seaweed is doing, but still too hot for dog and company to be comfortable. This is the time of year it would be nice to have a water front view as storm fights roll across the lake. (Molly and I are getting pretty good at running home just before the big rain hits!) It’s normal to have wild weather swings as seasons change here. But hadn’t seen the swirling overhead like that. The weather service said it was nothing and didn’t issue any warnings. I don’t worry unless things start getting green…and my head starts playing Wizard of OZ scenes (giggles) Thanks for storming over

Weaher is is a universal common topic… well, we all have it. Here the days are heading towards summer but tending to four seasons in one day. Winter wasn’t so bad, we had some rain but all in a few weeks rather than months. We rarely experience anything as exciting-extreme weatherwise like you describe. For which I’m grateful – bushfires are bad enough. I hope it cools off and you guys can get outside soon 🙂

After being stuck inside all summer from heat – and now mosquitoes, it’s cabin fever time. And more rain and storms for the next few days. Poor Molly has given up and is in suspended animation, I think. But she has recognized the mornings are slightly cooler, so no need to jump out of bead quite so early…she’s simply not a morning person, uh, dog.
Your brush fires are terribly frightening. We have some prairie fires started by lightning sometimes, but nothing like you guys. Sounds like all of us are ready to transition into the next season’s offerings. Hope the sun rises on a perfect day for you and yours. Thanks for floating over to chat

Oh, the push-pull. It’s in full force, now. So lovely this weekend, but I put the AC back on last night because of the humidity. And this afternoon? I was working in the shade, and it was fine, until about 2 p.m. when the wind turned more south and really brought in the humidity. Do you know how hard it can be not to drip sweat into varnish? A bandana around the forehead is fine, but it doesn’t help with the chin!

Ah, well. I’m looking forward to more rain, and hoping that the next WestPac storm throws some moisture up to California. It’s getting truly, truly desperate out there. We’re the lucky ones, this time around.

I completely understand not dripping sweat into the varnish AARRRGGGHHH! Teak is pretty, but the maintenance. AZ and some of the SW is getting rain – but CA has been dry for several years. Desperate is an understatement – the dairy cow’s pastures are pretty grim…and milk is in so many things (but why are we exporting so much of it? Odd when milk prices here are so high)
Yes, this summer’s water bills were so much lower than years past with almost weekly rain. Ungrateful to complain. (I think Molly is in suspended animation at this point…) Thanks for rolling with the wind

Does it sound like fall yet? Molly the Malamute isn’t a morning dog at all. She’s thrilled we don’t have to get up at crack of dawn to walk before the extreme heat starts. Weather is inching cooler here…more storms and sheets of rain all until weekend. If I wasn’t so tired of being inside, it might be a great time to read/write. ALl it’s brining now is lack of energy/motivation for much of anything…but soon. It’s coming!

The summers there are so much shorter (although maybe just as intense in August) Back in 90’s past few days – still in 80’s at night here – but you will need to pull out those fancy gloves and warm socks shortly. More big storms the next few days. Molly is hibernating until the rain stops…dreaming of Boo and a friendly kitty no doubt. (At least she and the cat can be in the same room without issues now…slowly….easier when cat is younger?) Thanks for strolling by! (ps, card sent. cheers!)

We’ve had such an unexpectedly lovely summer this year (for a change), that I’m kind of sad to see it go. Fall has started out nicely, with a few thunderstorms but thankfully no tornadoes, but I don’t think summer has hit the mat yet.
