Over here. I know a place.(German’s nose)

The area’s like a bee hive right now: out of towners buzzing over all the parties, dancing round and round, cluttering up the place so it’s hard for the regulars to sip at their normal spots. That’s gotta sting.

Busy at a frantic pace.

The German has been exhausted from keeping an eye on it all.

It makes her life much more difficult when Person refuses to listen and take her advice.

Shouldn’t be questioned about it.

The intelligent thing to do is follow her lead.

After all she’s got nose.

Fortunately, the German’s home is an oasis of calm and peace.

Relaxing.

Normally.

Hate when there's Jalapenos on the nachoes

Hate it when there are Jalapenos on the nachos.
No, not sitting on the remote. My turn anyway.

You sometimes forget the German isn’t human:

She has favorite shows on TV and likes lounging on the couch. (Popcorn? Yes, please – no salt.)

She’s determined to keep her weight down with a regular schedule of walking

She watches her diet.

Won’t drink water after 9 pm so she gets a solid uninterrupted night’s sleep.

Dog parks and crowds of other dogs aren’t her cup of tea – why would they be? She prefers Starbucks and watching passers-by.

But occasionally even the German trips up over a human cultural event.

Would someone please stop that horrendous noise.

Someone please stop that horrendous noise.

Like fire alarms.

Experience has shown her that the safest place from danger at home is an inner room for tornadoes and under the bed for everything else.

The German is also very determined to protect Person, especially if Person is headed the wrong way.

So the annoying ringing is a little loud.

Just dive under the bed and smush ears firmly against the rug.

OK. Person can physically drag a large sitting dog across the wooden floor, but if a hand is needed to open the door….

And repeat.

Now out into the hall:  The hall that is filled with smoke.

Uh, yes, only four feet to the stairwell…

But it’s carpeted and dog toenails can get a grip…all four feet.

Yes, Person, is now trying to lift large-sack-of-potatoe-limp-German Shepherd onto her feet and shove her forward.

Oh, the elevator is opening.

The sudden distraction allows the German a calculated move which results in Person sprawled in a pile on the floor.

Startled looks by elevator inhabitants.

“Oh the fire department has cleared the building.

It was just a cooking accident.”

With dignity, the German takes up solid position by her front door.

Huffs a huge sigh of resignation.

Her over-the-shoulder glare is clear: “Bacon. Told ya. Open the door. Game’s in the last quarter.”

Down with beds. One for sleeping. One for camaphlague.

Down with beds. One for sleeping. One for camouflage.

Just a dog gone update,

Phil, the Philosopher Mouse of the Hedge

As has been said many times (even by Jimmy Durante??), “The Nose Knows.” Good Girl, German!

I have a feeling the German is going to make sure her Person reads your comment. She tries hard to work with humans, but some are so stubborn and willful. Thanks for dog trotting over

Oh, my. So far our fire alarm has only been the noise-only sort of false alarm, which is bad enough. A little smoke would be sufficient to get my heart rate up. The problem is that Dixie heads straight under the bed, and in a real emergency… well.. I’ll hope we never have to face that!

Good to see the German looking so fine!

The under the bed plan is a concern. I hate it when those battery low alerts start beeping …why is it always at night? And you know you have to get up and do something or it gets louder. Hope you and Dixie are enjoying the sun…the German apparently is trying to just hibernate – not happy with the dreary cold stuff. But a few more weeks of it to go! Thanks for buzzing over

What a pity dogs can’t communicate in human… although I think they, especially The German would be far to the point for the comfort of most of us, but The German’s looks & actions speak eloquently enough, and more than sufficiently, if we would just pay proper attention 😉

The German isn’t too excited about dreary cold weather and sees little reason to go out into if not necessary. That German is one smart cookie. Thanks for wandering over to bark along

Hey, I’d be hesitant to leave bacon! But I am afraid of smoke and will run from it.

Hey Rumpy, it’s the German here. Smoke is bad – but that loud alarm! Person kept yelling loudly, too. Under the bed seemed safe but apparently not. I’m going to have to think about all this….maybe after the game and then a nap. Thanks for barking along.

That’s kind of scary to think of how difficult it would be to get German out in case of a real fire. I’ve thought of that with our pets, too. Our Golden only responds to my husband. Such an adorable dog…glad you shared an update!

A bit of a concern considering she goes up and down that staircase all the time. Guess, Person will be working on that “alarms mean we have to walk quickly out” thing.
RC and Molly would gladly escape if a door or window was open…the trick would be getting them to come back…such party animals. (RC would be so cross about her mousies…fear the paw!) Thanks for roaming over to chat

My dogs would hang around if they smelled bacon smoke. However, if one of the smoke alarm batteries signals that it’s dying, Stella clears the house real fast.

Universal response to bacon? I hate those low battery beeps – always in the middle of the night…scrambling to get it changed out before it starts screaming in anguish. Glad you had time to stop by. Hope things are going well

Sometimes dogs are so much smarter, aren’t they? Things are a bit crowded and noisy in the area, especially today. But once that parade’s over, life should settle back to normal for a while. 😉

The German’s such a funny dog. She goes up and down those stairs all the time (Crowds in elevators make her shy). But she was determined not to miss the end of that game…..or maybe to sneak a few snacks when Person was busy elsewhere.

You know I am partial to Germans – lovely, intelligent, loyal, fun. My youngest just got her first snow event – ever. And she loves popcorn too – even eats peanuts and blackberries. Go figure.

Germans are just so much fun to have around. You can actually see them thinking and figuring things out. This one definitely doesn’t realize she’s a dog.In her younger years she loved to romp in snow, but now popcorn, TV, and looking out the window from the couch is entertainment enough. Thanks for running over to chat

Pippa says to the German that under the bed is not clever. Our German once got stuck under there – silly Prince. We have a new German on the block in Spain (post not yet up, not sure for his blog or mine). She is lovely. She doesn’t like church bells though and howls and barks at them. Too loud on sensitive ears.

Paw waves to the German and poor crated Molly.

I can imagine the site of stuck Prince! We do wonder about that possibility, but she will not be discouraged…luckily that bed has taller floor clearance. Germans do have those ears; all the better to monitor the neighborhood?
Don’t worry Pippa, Molly isn’t in doggy jail for long….anyway when she gets into crazy manic behavior it means she’s about ready to crash and burn into a nap – like an overly tired toddler at a store. Something we’ve found out very recently…very weird. We have to intercept and make her sit down quietly for a few minutes – and she’s asleep. Today is sunny and warm and she’s going to play wildly with friends in a big fenced field for a bit. So maybe the house will survive another day.
Will watch for the new dog post! Will Pippa befriend this newcommer?
      Thanks for running over.

I tell you, lifting up a solid wooden four poster bed to free a silly German was no fun!

Molly sounds like me (ie me not Pippa), get tired, hyper – and crash. Dogs and people are not so different.

She was frightened of Pippa which was silly, so it looks like poco a poco. Snoozing off here.
